Unity speeds up development of the digital twin reality for the industrial metaverse
In fact, there are already many typical “metaverse” applications in the industry. 3D in the industrial field has been developing for many years. Now more industrial enterprises are applying digital twin technology combined with 3D data to create digital twin bodies for industrial scenarios, which display, predict and deduce industrial processes in the virtual world. Behind the abstract concept of “industrial metaverse”, its essence is still a link in the long digital upgrading of the industry, and it is an underlying technological tool for industrial development to improve productivity.
The basic tool for the application of digital twin technology is a game engine for constructing 3D content. Currently, the game engine has become a basic productivity tool for industrial digital upgrading. As a game engine giant, Unity is answering the specific needs of all industries and sectors to help them improve production efficiency and open the door to the metaverse.
The ability to lower costs and raise efficiency that comes with digital twin technology has made many industrial manufacturers eager to try it. Yet, for many manufacturers that have never been exposed to digital twins, implementing the technology highlights a certain threshold. Unity can help ease the entry of these manufacturers into the metaverse through a smart digital twin production toolkit tailored for users with zero foundation, allowing users to build their own digital twin products without writing code.
These tools can help factories quickly build flexible production lines utilizing digital twins and set up unmanned factories. By building a high-precision interactive virtual space, it is possible to control all aspects of industrial manufacturing in real time, as well as achieve collaboration and reengineering of each step in the design process, reducing costs and increasing efficiency for the real world.
A big part of 3D modeling is used in urban architectural design, where real-time online 3D technology will disrupt the entire production process of the industry. Overseas, companies have used digital twin technology to build the entire city of Paris in the Unity editor, enabling Paris city operations. In China, Unity has helped large corporations and public infrastructure such as Shanghai International Automobile City, Hong Kong Airport and Beijing Urban Construction to build three-dimensional scenes at the building, urban and city levels, enabling virtual-real interaction, simulation and data visualization.
In these business scenarios, the “enterprise metaverse” is gradually taking shape. In the marketing scene, using real-time 3D technology in scenarios such as virtual brand launches, online showrooms, shopping experiences, and virtual spokespeople can bring freshness and enrich the customer experience, thus improving brand communication efficiency. Unity launches two products for these brands: App rendering solution and Unity Forma. These brands can incorporate real-time 3D experience into any app, allowing customers to browse and interact with products in 360 degrees and experience product features.
Social interactions in the office scene will also soon be overturned by metaverse technology, and the virtual office will become an indispensable scene for telecommuting. Unity (China) is building the Shanghai Virtual Office, a 1:1 office rendition with high-definition rendering technology that provides the same experience in the virtual space as in the real office in Shanghai. With real-time 3D rendering tools, employees can interact freely in virtual scenarios, giving them a sense of immersion and significantly improving office efficiency.
