Epic Has Awarded Grants To Almost 400 Projects

Epic MegaGrant is a funding project that supports developers and developers who create creative and outstanding content with Unreal Engine or enhance open source capabilities for the 3D graphics community. It is a pure developer support program without any conditions and restrictions. Selected projects will receive a grant of at least $5,000 (approximately 5.92 million won) to a maximum of $500,000 (about 590 million won).

The Epic Megagrants fund is living up to its name: a large number of artists and companies using Unreal Engine have benefited from the scheme since its launch in 2019.The Epic Mega Grant, which started with a total of $100 million (about 118.5 billion won) in 2019, has supported the Epic Mega Grant sponsorship for more than 1,600 cumulative works in 89 countries around the world including almost 400 this year. The grants generally go to projects that incorporate Unreal, whether in entertainment, academia, product design, or one of a number of other fields.

This year’s award winners include a number of impressive projects from around the world, from dinosaur survival games to fashion design platforms applicable to the metaverse, including sci-fi series (and game) Metropius from Australia’s 18 Degrees, a feature based on the Epic of Gilgamesh from Argentina’s Hook Up Animation, and action-adventure series Forlorn from L.A.-based animator Alex St. Pierre.Other recipients include indie game developers like Ukraine’s Vidloonnya Reborn, Irish musician Noisestorm, the U.K.’s Great Ape Games, and France’s Redlock Studio.

Epic is the creator of hit game Fortnite and Unreal, the engine that powers it. Unreal is at the heart of the real-time rendering revolution in animation and vfx. It is widely used in virtual production, the set of techniques that allows filmmakers to visualize and adjust synthetic elements throughout production, and is central to the development of the metaverse.

Epic Games Korea (CEO Park Seong-cheol) of Epic Games, a global game developer and provider of everything for the Unreal Engine, store and digital creation ecosystem, about 10 works in various industries including indie games, consoles, PC platform games, TV animations and animated films were selected as Mega Grants in Korea. Newly awarded domestic developers this year include studios in media & entertainment fields such as Studio Aeon, SMG Entertainment, Lee Dae-hee Animation Studio, and 302 Planet, and game developers such as Shift Up, NU, Turtle Cream, Jakdu Studio, and 511 Games.
