Suzume no Tojimari Beats Your name. in Box Office Opening!

Renowned director Shinkai Makoto’s newest anime film, Suzume no Tojimari, has achieved the biggest box office opening numbers of all of his films! It has surpassed Shinkai Makoto’s previous “Your Name” and “Weathering with You” of the same period of box office
“Suzume no Tojimari” is Shinkai’s third film related to disaster after “Your Name” and “Weathering with You”
Having premiered on November 11, 2022, the film’s opening pulled in over 1.8 billion yen from more than 1.3 million tickets sold over three days. This adds up to 138.7% more viewers and 147.4% more earnings compared to “Your Name” , and 114.9% more viewers and 114.7% more earnings compared to “Weathering with You”.
It has also been confirmed that Suzume no Tojimari will be distributed in 199 countries and regions. Crunchyroll announced in early May that it will release the film globally excluding Asia in cooperation with Sony Pictures and Wild Bunch International.
Suzume no Tojimari follows Suzume, a seventeen-year-old girl who lives in a quiet town in Kyushu. After meeting a young man on a journey to find doors, she discovers a strange door, old but still standing despite the ruins surrounding it. Before long, doors all over Japan begin to open, bringing misfortune from beyond. Thus, Suzume must embark on her own journey to close these doors.
Shinkai serves as the director and screenwriter, and your name’s Masayoshi Tanaka is behind the character designs. Additionally, your name’s Kenichi Tsuchiya serves as the animation director and Takumi Tanij as the art director. As for the cast, Nanoka Hara makes her voice-acting debut as the lead character. Alongside Hara is Saito Itō (Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!), Shōta Sometani (BELLE), Hokuto Matsumura (live-action xxxHOLiC), and Kana Hanazawa (Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story).
