Project Selection in Cartoon Forum 2022

Cartoon Forum next edition: 80 new TV series, mini-series, and TV specials projects involing independent studios from 19 countries.
Cartoon Forum’s statistics remain similar to the previous years. Shortlisted from 137 submissions, the 80 selected projects have a total budget of 367.2 M€ with an average cost per project of 4,5M€; though the cost per minute of animation production has slightly increased compared to 2021 (12,815 € per minute vs 11,887 € in 2021 – it’s coming back to the level reached before the pandeic: 12,250 €).
This year,Cartoon Forum took place in Toulouse. Featuring 80 new animated series from 19 European countries, this pitching and co-production forum will host some 1,075 participants from 40 countries interested in discovering the next generation of European animation. Broadcasters, distributors, investors, streamers, book publishers and game representatives are among the 292 buyers and decision makers attending the event, a 13% of whom are newcomers.
This year’s selection features pitches from majority producers in 19 countries; the bulk, of course, coming from France. Spain is this year’s second leading contributor, a clear sign of the region’s continued growth in original animation production. With more than 20 feature films in development or production stages, and a similar slate of work-in-progress animated series, the Spanish animation industry is on a groove.Other countries with significant contributions include Germany, Ireland, and Italy. Ireland and Germany are represented with six each. Italy participates with five projects, Poland with three and Belgium and Denmark with two each. Austria, Croatia, Finland, Greece, Lithuania, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Romania, Serbia and Sweden all back one each.
