Netflix Acquires Animated ‘Marmaduke’ Feature Released in May 2022

The new animated movie Marmaduke which features the voices of J.K. Simmons, Pete Davidson, David Koechner, Shelby Young and Tania Gunadi is headed to Netflix in select regions including the United States and the United Kingdom in May 2022.

Produced by Andrews McMeel Entertainment and Legacy Classics, the fully animated feature sees Marmaduke, voiced by Saturday Night Live’s Pete Davidson. Marmaduke is directed by Mark A.Z. Dippé (The Reef 2: High Tide, Spawn) and co-directed by Matt Philip Whelan (vfx supervisor on American Gods, The Turning) from a script by Byron Kavanagh (Pat the Dog). The animation was produced through Canada/China/Korea-based Storyberry Inc.

Here’s the official synopsis of the upcoming movie:

“Marmaduke epitomises the overgrown lapdog, with an irascible streak and a penchant for mischief tempered bye a deep sense of love and responsibility for his family. This time, he gets involved with the world of elite dog shows, dramatic divas, and hilarious rivalries.”

It was acquired by Netflix for the world excluding China, Hong Kong, Italy, Spain, Andorra, Portugal, Greece, Cyprus, Iceland, Poland, CIS, Former Yugoslavia, Baltics, Israel, and MENA. The film is based on the popular newspaper comic strip created by Brad Anderson in 1954, who drew the strip until his death in 2015.
