IGF Accepts Over 500 Entries For GDC 2024

The 26th annual Independent Games Festival is poised to make indie game history once again, as over 500 individual games have been accepted for the 2024 competition.

Developers from all over the world sent in their projects to the largest and longest-running showcase for independent game developers—taking place at the 2024 Game Developers Conference, which will be held at the Moscone Convention Center in San Francisco from March 18-22, 2024. Submissions arrived from a diverse group of veteran gamemakers, first-time entrants, student developers, and more.

Some of the games on the IGF 2024 Entrants list include Devolver Digital’s The Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood, KO_OP’s apocalyptic high school game Goodbye Volcano High, and Awaceb’s Tchia, a beautiful open-world adventure inspired by New Catalonia.

The Independent Games Festival is dedicated to highlighting unique, up-and-coming, and otherwise standout projects. These include taking a journey into the secrets-filled world of Brent Arnold’s Final Profit: A Shop RPG, finding your song in Summerfall Studios’ Stray Gods: A Roleplaying Musical, and typing through an existential crisis in LUAL Games KIG’s I doesn’t exist – a modern text adventure.

From this large selection of games, six finalists will be chosen for each of the IGF 2024 Competition award categories—save the Nuovo Award, which has eight finalists. These categories include: Excellence in Visual Art, Excellence in Audio, Excellence in Design, Excellence in Narrative, Best Student Game, and the Seumas McNally Grand Prize.

At IGF 2023, Cosmo D Studios’ Betrayal at Club Low won the Seumas McNally Grand Prize for Best Independent Game and the Nuovo Award, making it the second game in IGF history to win both awards in the same year.

Finalists will be announced in January 2024 and will receive free passes to the event, along with the opportunity to showcase their games at GDC 2024. IGF finalists are also welcome to accept their 2024 IGF Awards remotely.

The Independent Games Festival Awards will take place Wednesday, March 20 on the Main Stage at GDC 2024, and will be available to watch live for free via the GDC Twitch channel. For those eager to see the awards for themselves, make sure to buy a pass for GDC 2024!
