Ubisoft’s Classic Remake “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time” Possibly Launching in Mid-January 2026
Ubisoft’s Classic Remake “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time” Further Narrows Release Window, Possibly Launching in Mid-January 2026

According to the latest information revealed by well-known industry insider Tom Henderson on the Insider Gaming podcast, the highly anticipated remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time has now further narrowed its release timeframe to mid-January 2026. It is expected to launch on PC and major console platforms. If confirmed, this classic title will officially return to players’view early next year.
Henderson stated that his sources have confirmed Ubisoft’s recent internal clarification of the game’s release arrangements. It is reported that Ubisoft plans to initiate only about a month of concentrated marketing before the game’s launch. Therefore, industry speculation suggests that the upcoming The Game Awards 2025 ceremony next week may serve as the key moment for the first official announcement of the release date.
The development journey of this remake has been fraught with twists and turns. Initially announced in September 2020 with a planned early 2021 release, the project was shelved in February 2021. Development resumed only in 2022, officially taken over by Ubisoft Montreal, the studio that created the original game. After prolonged adjustments, the project passed a key development milestone in November 2023 and confirmed in May this year that it would be released in “early 2026.”
If this release plan proceeds smoothly, the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake will become a significant part of the series’ recent resurgence. Following the release of the critically acclaimed side-scrolling action title Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown in January 2024 and the Roguelite new entry Prince of Persia: Rogue in August 2025, this comprehensive remake is expected to further reawaken players’ collective memory of the series and help the IP return to the mainstream gaming stage.
Industry observers note that this remake is not only a visual and technical upgrade of classic content but may also serve as a strategic move by Ubisoft to revitalize the Prince of Persia brand and bridge both old and new player communities. Amid the concurrent waves of nostalgia and remakes, the final performance of this title will also provide important insights for the modern development of similar classic IPs.
