The OpenHarmony 5.0 Release version has been officially released.
The 2024 OpenAtom Developer Conference and the first Open Source Technology Academic Conference brought together many experts, scholars, and practitioners in the field of open source technology. Through one opening ceremony and 18 sub-forums, they jointly explored the latest progress, practical experiences, innovative achievements, challenges, and future development of open source technology in the current AI era.
With the acceleration of digital transformation, open-source operating systems are playing an increasingly important role in building modern IT architectures. As a heavyweight open-source operating system project incubated and operated by the OpenAtom Open Source Foundation, OpenHarmony focuses on building a framework and platform for the operating systems of intelligent terminal devices, promoting the prosperous development of the Internet of Everything industry. The influence of OpenHarmony is not limited to smart living.
At this conference, the OpenHarmony 5.0 Release version was officially launched. Community representatives provided in-depth introductions to the significant improvements in system completeness, distributed innovation, developer experience, and system stability in this version. They also demonstrated how it can empower industrial innovation and digital transformation.
The OpenHarmony 5.0 Release version first supports the development of various super applications. The distributed soft bus has been upgraded again, continuously improving the efficiency and stability of device connection. Secondly, multi-task processing is more efficient, and data sharing between devices is safer and more convenient. In addition, it provides a more friendly development environment to accelerate the application development process. The OpenHarmony project continues to be open and jointly built by the community on the OpenAtom Open Source Foundation platform. More than 120 chips have been adapted, and more than 900 software and hardware products have passed compatibility tests.
According to a batch of open-source application cases released at this conference, OpenHarmony has been widely applied in industries such as power, water conservancy and water transport, elderly care, smart cities, transportation, oil and gas, and industrial manufacturing, demonstrating the huge potential of open-source operating system technology to become a new engine driving industry transformation. For instance, in a video AI monitoring project at a reservoir in Xinjiang, the overall recognition rate in complex night scenes reached 95.45%, outperforming traditional cameras. These cases bring high practical value to developers and IT professionals in enhancing their ability to select technologies and design solutions, and applying open-source technologies to actual business scenarios.
Another operating system has also been transformed for AI. At the openEuler technical sub-forum, guests discussed the latest achievements of openEuler in areas such as cloud-native, embedded systems, and AI, how to promote the innovation of operating systems through open source communities, and how openEuler can help enterprises and developers build a more secure and efficient digital infrastructure.
Ren Wei, a member of the openEuler Technical Committee, disclosed that he is leading the effort to introduce the specific planning and implementation of openEuler Embedded for intelligent driving basic software, targeting the intelligent driving field, involving heterogeneous multi-core SoCs, cockpit and driving integration, etc. There are also subsequent plans for vehicle-road-cloud integration, intelligent driving plus vehicle-cloud integration, etc. openEuler also revealed the vast prospects of embodied robots, humanoid robots, and openEuler for Space. For developers building the future digital world with openEuler open-source technology, this undoubtedly brings more interesting imagination space.
