Family Day Focus

 

This year’s MAF Family Day will take place on Sun 14 Nov and has a jam-packed line-up, featuring the Children’s in Competition shorts programme, the return of the incredible Sculpt with Jim with Jim Parkyn (suitable for all ages!), our specially curated BBC Family Day Boxset including all your favourites from CBBC and last but certainly not least, a very special 20th Anniversary screening of Studio Ghibli’s Spirited away!

a brand new addition is announced to the family day line-up, in the form of a very special Hey Duggee character workshop! Taking place over two sessions, Hey Duggee designer Ross Phillips will show the audience the secrets behind creating cartoon characters. Audience’ll learn how to draw some favourites from the show, create your very own Squirrel Club member and earn your Character Workshop Badge – wowza! Tickets are only £5 per child when accompanied by a responsible adult, with workshops running at 11:00 and 13:00.

MARKET ANNOUNCEMENT NEXT WEDNESDAY

Taking place on Thu 18 Nov, MAF Marketplace brings together companies and animation studios to showcase their work and meet the Festival delegates. Virtual stalls are set and ready for you to chat, meet, share and network. Companies will be available for portfolio reviews and tips, funding meetings, tech help, recruitment, course information, IP and rights discussion and so much more.

There is an exclusive online Q&A event with Michaela Pavlátová herself to the Festival, which is live on Wed 17 Nov at 20:30. Ticket is necessary for the event.

t University of Salford have been keen supporters of the festival for several editions, as well as being the Higher Education Partner. University of Salford are also thepartners on founding and delivering the Educating Animators Academic Conference which takes place annually as part of Manchester Animation Festival! This year Educating Animators will continue to be in an online “unconference” format, presenting teaching methodologies & industry insight into the delivery of a progressive and creative curriculum, whilst answering the skills gap for the future of the Animation sector.

Through their School of Arts, Media and Creative Technology, the University of Salford offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses across art and design, film, TV, media and beyond. Their creative media courses, including Animation and Post Production and VFX for example, are based at MediaCityUK. They are the only university to have a campus there, meaning students can study surrounded by a range of digital and creative organisations!

EVENT SPOTLIGHT: INSIDE THE MAKING OF THE HOUSE + Q&A

This week’s MAF event spotlight is our exciting insight into Netflix’s soon to be stop-motion hit: The House. Acclaimed stop-motion directors Emma de Swaef & Marc James Roels, Niki Lindroth von Bahr, Paloma Baeza and Nexus Studios co-founder and series producer Charlotte Bavasso will present a behind the scenes look at The House, a masterfully crafted dark animated comedy. Details on the production are still very much under wraps, so if you want to find out more then buying a ticket for Inside the Making Of The House is a must!
