Disney Pixar Original Animation Hoppers Sets March 2026 Release, All-Star Voice Cast Revealed

Disney and Pixar Animation Studios announced today that their all-new original animated feature, Hoppers, will officially open in North American theaters on March 6, 2026. Directed by Daniel Chong (We Bare Bears) and produced by Nicole Paradis Grindle (Incredibles 2), the film features an all-star voice cast including Meryl Streep, Jon Hamm, and Bobby Moynihan, embarking on a fantastical adventure exploring the fusion of human and animal consciousness.
Sci-Fi Premise Opens New Dimension of Communication
The film constructs an imaginative near-future world where scientists have developed “consciousness hopping” technology, allowing human minds to be transferred into lifelike robotic animals to communicate directly with the animal kingdom. The story follows animal lover Mabel (voiced by Piper Curda), who uses this technology to project her consciousness into a robotic beaver, accidentally becoming entangled in a crisis threatening the animal kingdom’s survival and befriending the charismatic Beaver King George (voiced by Bobby Moynihan).

All-Star Voice Ensemble Lends Their Talents
In addition to the previously announced cast, the studio today released the full voice lineup: Meryl Streep voices the Insect Queen, Jon Hamm plays the smooth-talking Mayor Jerry, with Dave Franco, Kathy Najimy, and other accomplished actors also contributing their voices. The diverse character roster includes hierarchical roles such as Insect Queen, Fish Queen, Reptile Queen, Bird King, and Amphibian King, building a richly layered fantasy ecosystem.

Pixar’s New IP Challenge and Market Opportunity
As another original IP from Pixar following Elio (2025), Hoppers faces the market challenge of recently soft openings for original animations. Data shows that Pixar’s seven lowest wide-release openings all belong to original IPs, with Elio setting a studio record-low of $20.8 million for its domestic opening weekend. However, Elemental (2023) demonstrated strong staying power by eventually grossing $154.4 million domestically through long theatrical runs, proving the potential longevity of family animated films.
The film’s scheduling in the traditionally softer March corridor has drawn industry attention. Previous animated releases in early March, Kung Fu Panda 4 (2024) and Zootopia (2016), achieved opening weekends of $57.9 million and $75 million respectively, indicating potential in this release window. However, the debut of The Super Mario Bros. Galaxy Movie four weeks later may draw away family audiences.
Technology-Enabled Narrative Innovation
Director Daniel Chong, known for his unique handling of anthropomorphic storytelling in We Bare Bears, will collaborate with composer Mark Mothersbaugh (The Lego Movie, Lilo & Stitch) for the original score. Producer Grindle stated, “We wanted to explore new possibilities for the connection between humans and nature, infusing entertainment with reflections on ecological coexistence.”
Industry projections estimate the film’s North American opening weekend will land between $40 million and $50 million. As the competitive landscape for the Spring 2026 season takes shape, whether this animated film centered on “cross-species communication” can pave a new path of original success for Pixar remains a point of keen observation.
