DCU Wonder Woman Reboot Gets First Official Update From Screenwriter

DC Studios’ highlyanticipated Wonder Woman reboot has received its first official comments from screenwriter Ana Nogueira, offering new insights into the upcoming feature that will recast the Amazonian princess previously portrayed by Gal Gadot.

As one of the key writers for the rebooted DC Universe, Ana Nogueira earned widespread praise for her script for Supergirl. Originally assigned to develop a bigscreen adaptation of Teen Titans, Nogueira was reassigned by DC Studios coCEO James Gunn to prioritize the Wonder Woman reboot, putting the Teen Titans project on hold for the time being.

During the press tour for the upcoming theatrical release of Supergirl, Nogueira gave interviews to multiple media outlets regarding her topsecret Wonder Woman screenplay. Though she refused to unveil plot details, she shared her core creative philosophy: to seek out what feels most authentic to the character. When writing Kara ZorEl / Supergirl, she drew heavily on the heroine’s established backstory. For Wonder Woman, she will adopt a different approach: she will block out preexisting adaptations and figure out what Diana truly means to her before drafting the script. Nogueira stressed that her main goal is to “do right by these iconic characters” and honor the deep connection fans have built with Wonder Woman over decades.

On casting, James Gunn has previously laid down clear ground rules. No lead actress will be locked in until the script is fully completed. Extreme height will never serve as a critical requirement for the role. Multiple unconfirmed online rumors have surfaced, including speculation that Adria Arjona may take the part and be introduced disguised as Maxima in Man of Tomorrow. DC Studios has not verified these casting reports.

The reboot project has drawn massive fan attention across the globe for several reasons. First, Gal Gadot’s iteration of Wonder Woman left a huge cultural footprint in the DCEU through her 2017 and 2020 standalone films, creating high expectations for how the new DCU will differentiate its take on Diana. Second, Wonder Woman was absent from Chapter One “Gods & Monsters” theatrical slate, with the Game of Thronesstyle series Paradise Lost covering Amazonthemed storytelling. Fans are eager to see how the new movie explores Themyscira and Greek mythological roots.
