The winners of the various competition sections of the 72nd edition of the San Sebastian International Film Festival were announced, and the movie The Seed of the Sacred Fig directed by Mohammad Rasoulof won the audience award for the best European film.
According to the report of Mansour Jahani, an independent and international cinema journalist, the closing ceremony of the 72nd edition of the San Sebastian International Film Festival, headed by José Luis Rebordinos, was held at the Kursaal Hall in San Sebastian, Spain, and on behalf of the jury members of this prestigious film event; The winners of different competitive sections are announced and the “Golden Oyster” and “Silver Oyster” awards were presented to them.
The Winners of the Main Competition
The jury members of the Main Competition of the 72nd San Sebastian International Film Festival were; Spanish director Jaione Camborda as president of the jury, Argentinian writer and journalist Leila Guerriero, American actor and director Fran Kranz, Greek director Christos Nikou, French producer Carole Scotta and Australian director Ulrich Seidl; they announced their votes as follows:
The Golden Shell Award
The Golden Shell Award was awarded to the 125-minute documentary film “Tardes de soledad” directed by Albert Serra (Spain, France, Portugal).
The Special Jury Award
The special prize of the jury was awarded to the American movie “The Last Showgirl” directed by Gia Coppola.
The Silver Shell Award for Best Director
The Silver Shell award for best director was awarded to Laura Carreira for directing the movie “On Falling” a (England, Portugal) and to Pedro Martín Calero for directing the movie “The Wailing” (Spain, Argentina, France).
The Silver Shell Award for the Best Actor
The Silver Shell award for the best leading role was awarded to Patricia López Arnaiz for her role in the Spanish film “Glimmers” directed by Pilar Palomero.
The Silver Shell Award for Best Supporting Performance
The Silver Shell award for the best supporting actor was awarded to Pierre Lottin for his role in the French movie “When Fall Is Coming” directed by François Ozon.
The Jury Award for Best Screenplay
The Jury Prize for Best Screenplay was awarded to François Ozon and Philippe Piazzo for the script When Fall Is Coming (France).
Award for Best Cinematography
The Jury Award for Best Cinematography was awarded to Piao Songri for the cinematography of “Bound in Heaven” directed by Huo Xin (China).
The Winners of the New Directors Award
The members of the jury of the New Directors Award, which were; French producer and broadcaster Philippe Bober as president of the jury, Argentinian director and programmer Eduardo Crespo as president of the jury, Irish critic and programmer Jessica Kiang, Spanish director Izibene Oñederr and Swiss director Aulona Selmani; they announced their votes as follows:
Best Director Award
The best director award was given to Piet Baumgartner for directing the “Bagger Drama” (Switzerland).
Special Mention
The jury special mention praised Antón Álvarez for directing the “La guitarra flamenca de Yerai Cortés” (Spain).
The Horizontes Award
The jury members of the Horizontes Award at the 72nd San Sebastian International Film Festival were; Argentinian a film critic Fernando Juan Lima, producer Spanish Pedro Hernández Santos and Costa Rican director Valentina Maurel; they announced their vote as follows:
The Horizontes award was given to the movie “Kill the Jockey” directed by Luis Ortega (Argentina, Mexico, Spain, Denmark, America).
The Zabaltegi-Tabakalera Award
The jury members of the avant-garde and experimental Zabaltegi-Tabakalera Award in this prestigious and first-class world cinema event, which were; Emilie Bujès, director of the Visions du Réel festival from Switzerland as president of the jury, Argentinian director Santiago Loza, and Icelandic producer Hrönn Kristinsdóttir; فhey announced their votes as follows:
The avant-garde and experimental Zabaltegi-Tabakalera Award was awarded to the movie “April” directed by Dea Kulumbegashvili (France, Italy, Georgia).
The movie “Collective Monologue” directed by Jessica Sarah Rinland (Argentina) was praised by the jury in this section.
San Sebastian Audience Award
The San Sebastián Audience Award for the best film was awarded to the movie “The Marching Band directed” by Emmanuel Courcol (France).
San Sebastian Audience Award for Best European Film
The San Sebastian Audience Award for the best European film was awarded to the movie “The Seed of the Sacred Fig” directed by Mohammad Rasoulof (Germany, France, Iran).
Screening a selection of the year’s best feature films
