2021 PROGRAMME LAUNCH ON MONDAY!

The MAF 2021 programme launch is finally here, with all the details for our first ever hybrid edition going live at 12 noon (BST) on Mon 27 Sep via YouTube. The Festival Director Steve Henderson will be leading a video presentation on this year’s proceedings which is not to be missed. We’ll be sharing details on animated short competitions, feature films, workshops, networking events, panel discussions, masterclasses and screen-talks from some of the brightest and best talent in the industry. The announcement will also include how events will take place as a hybrid festival, with details on in person venues and online screening.

In the festival, Matthew Lee’s amazing animated ident will be in a special pre-fest premiere. Matthew is the Director behind Cabin Pressure (winner of the 2017 Student Award at MAF) and NFTS graduation film One Liner which screened at MAF 2019. Following the announcement, tickets and passes for all events will go onsale Tue 28 Sep via our website at 12 noon (BST).

EDUCATING ANIMATORS DEADLINE EXTENDED

Educating Animators is in its fourth year, presented by University of Salford in partnership with Manchester Animation Festival. On Mon 15 Nov, a day of talks and presentations on teaching methodologies & industry insight into the delivery of a progressive and creative curriculum whilst answering the skills gap for the future of the Animation sector.

There will be presentations that share experience of how – across education, training and industry, as practitioners and academics – we have reinforced old methods or adopted new strategies. Do we learn the craft of animation in tried and tested ways or look to challenge tradition? The deadline for entries has now been extended until Fri 1 Oct, so there’s still time to submit proposals – but hurry!

BAFTA SUBMISSIONS

A reminder that entries for the BAFTA British Short Animation awards are now open, which will close on Fri 1 Oct 2021 at 12 noon (BST). The awards will be presented at the EE British Academy Film Awards on Sunday 13 March 2022.
