International animation studio Taiko Studios has released its award-winning original short film, One Small Step, online.

The CG-animated One Small Step follows Luna, a young Chinese-American girl who dreams of becoming an astronaut. From the day she witnesses a rocket launching into space on TV, she is inspired to reach for the stars. Luna lives with her loving father Chu in the big city. He supports her with a humble shoe repair business he runs out of his garage. As Luna grows up, she faces all kinds of challenges in pursuit of her dreams.

Student Academy Award winner Shaofu Zhang and veteran Disney animators Bobby Pontillas and Andrew Chesworth bring vision and verve to a touching story of hope through striking art direction and crisp storytelling. Complementing the team are CG supervisor Joy Johnson, the 2014 recipient of the VES Outstanding Animated Character Award for her work on Frozen’s Elsa, and pipeline supervisor Andrew Jennings, who served as technical animation supervisor for Disney short Inner Workings.

Winner of the Audience Choice Award at this year’s SIGGRAPH Computer Animation Festival, One Small Step also picked up prizes at the Rhode Island and Palm Springs International Film Festivals.

“The team at Taiko couldn’t be more grateful for all of the industry support and goodwill surrounding our first project,” the filmmakers note. “We are so happy to finally share the lovingly crafted work of our LA and Wuhan artists with the world. One Small Step is truly a reflection of the passion of everyone who made it.”
