Tripledot Studios Completes $40M Acquisition of Mobile Publisher Supersonic from Unity Technologies

Global casual mobile game leader Tripledot Studios today announced the completed acquisition of hybrid-casual publishing arm Supersonic from Unity Technologies for approximately $40 million in cash, subject to standard post-closing financial adjustments. The transaction marks a landmark strategic reshuffle across the mobile gaming ecosystem, as Unity streamlines business lines while Tripledot expands its full-stack publishing footprint globally.

Transaction Background

Supersonic originally entered Unity’s portfolio in 2022 via Unity’s $4.4 billion all-stock merger with Israeli adtech firm ironSource. Following years of integration challenges and thin profit margins for hypercasual publishing, Unity kicked off a comprehensive strategic reset in early 2026: it permanently shut down the ironSource Ads Network and initiated divestiture of non-core, low-margin assets including Supersonic, to refocus resources exclusively on its core game engine and high-growth Vector AI advertising platform.

Unity CEO Matt Bromberg commented that Tripledot is “the ideal long-term home for Supersonic’s team and publishing business”. The two parties will run a three-month seamless transition window to fully hand over daily operations to Tripledot. Under the new ownership, Supersonic will maintain independent operation as a standalone subsidiary of the Tripledot Group, retain its Tel Aviv headquarters, and stay led by existing management team headed by CEO Igor Bereslavski.

Strategic Value for Tripledot

Headquartered in London and founded in 2017, Tripledot has rapidly emerged as one of the world’s largest private mobile game groups. It secured $202 million across three funding rounds and hit nearly $2 billion annual revenue after its transformative $800 million acquisition of ten studios (including Lion Studios and Machine Zone) from AppLovin in May 2025, gaining a minority equity investment from AppLovin in the process. Its flagship evergreen puzzle hits include Woodoku, Triple Tile and Nut Short.

The $40M Supersonic acquisition delivers three core strategic boosts to Tripledot’s ecosystem:

Dominance in Hybrid-Casual Publishing Track Supersonic is a benchmark publisher in hybrid-casual mobile games, having partnered with hundreds of independent studios worldwide and published over 150 hit titles such as Bridge Race, Going Balls, Hole It, accumulating more than 6 billion global total downloads. Its mature live-operation, level design and game economy tuning capability perfectly complements Tripledot’s Lion Studios publishing arm, filling gaps in lightweight casual game distribution.

Full-Service Support for Independent Developers amid AI Industry Shift Tripledot Co-founder & CEO Lior Shiff highlighted the defining industry trend reshaping mobile gaming: AI has drastically lowered game creation thresholds, allowing small teams of just two to three creators to prototype and launch polished titles at record speed. However, oversupply of new games makes market differentiation, user acquisition (UA) and long-term monetization far more difficult for indie teams. “Small studios can build games cheaply with AI tools, but they lack sufficient capital, data science and cross-market growth expertise to scale hits,” Shiff explained. “By combining Supersonic’s frontline publishing network with Tripledot’s heavy investment in AI, marketing creative and player personalization technology, we close this critical gap for developers globally.”

Expanded Global Talent & Geographic Layout The deal establishes Tripledot’s first permanent base in Israel, absorbing Supersonic’s veteran UA, product and engineering teams. Cross-sharing of data, AI R&D and capital resources between Supersonic and Tripledot’s existing global studios will unlock larger-scale testing, iteration and long-term game retention optimization. Tripledot confirms sustained heavy investment into AI art generation, ad creative automation and personalized gameplay systems post-acquisition.

Commitment to Global Developer Partners

Both companies jointly reassured Supersonic’s worldwide indie studio partners that daily cooperation frameworks remain unchanged: the same core management team, publishing tools and one-on-one operational support will continue uninterrupted. The only upgrade is expanded access to Tripledot’s cross-portfolio expertise covering product iteration, progression curve balancing, rewarded video & IAP economy design, and global user growth strategy.

Supersonic CEO Igor Bereslavski emphasized the upgraded value proposition for partners: “Joining Tripledot gives us access to unmatched capital reserves, proprietary AI infrastructure and decades of cross-format publishing experience. Our core mission to empower independent creators stays unchanged, yet we now operate backed by a far larger, faster-growing industrial platform.”

Unity’s Strategic Outlook Post-Divestment

Unity’s Q2 fiscal 2026 financial results demonstrated clear payoff from its restructuring strategy: total quarterly revenue reached $546.5 million (24% YoY growth), with Grow Solutions (led by Vector AI ads) jumping 35% to $389 million. Adjusted EBITDA hit $160 million, up from $90 million one year prior, while GAAP net loss narrowed sharply from $107 million to $23 million. The firm forecasts full GAAP profitability by Q3 2026, with core engine and AI advertising businesses set to drive sustained high-margin growth.

Industry Takeaway

The asset sale signals a clear industry division of labor: engine & ad tech vendors like Unity are shedding low-margin publishing assets to double down on core software and AI advertising infrastructure; vertical integrated mobile game groups such as Tripledot continue consolidating global publishing capacity to capture indie developer demand amid an AI-fueled production boom.
