The Predator and the Alien Entangling for 14 Years

Produced by 20th Century Fox and directed by Shane Black, the director of Iron Man 3, the Hollywood sci-fi action Adventure Predator will return to screen in North America on September 14. Audiences who enjoy sci-fi action movies know that another major sci-fi IP – Alien has always been a rival of Predator. On the occasion of Double Seventh Festival , unconsciously, the predators and aliens have spent two “seven-years” together in their competition. If one phrase can be used to describe the opponents, it must be“love and hurt each other”.

August 13th this year is the 14th anniversary of the Predator and the Alien entangling each other. To celebrate this, the 20th Century Fox posted an anniversary picture onTwitter. The harmonious scene of the predator gently embracing its “Darling” Alien makes people forget the times when they once fought each other. The Twitter also revealed the inner thoughts of the predator – “Hunting you for a lifetime” – using the background poster of The Shape of Water with the title altered to The Shape of Blood. Fans relaid the popular comments, “The official sugar is the most deadly”, “This sugar is destroying”, “Trembling – is the anniversary gift a human head?” “They would never find a spouse uglier than the current one”…

In 1987, Predator was published, in which the battle between Arnold Schwarzenegger and the most powerful hunter in the universe shocked the film & television industry. Predator – the sci-fi action IP also impressed the industry. In the following 30 years, Predator 2 and Predators came out. The creators brought the predators to various hunting grounds, either cities or jungles. By contrast, Alien published its first work in 1979, followed by a trilogy of the same name , as well as the prequels Prometheus and Alien:Covenant. In 1989, Dark Horse Comics merge the two IPs for the first time, enabling them to fight in the comics. In 1994, the game company CAPCOM launched the game Alien vs. Predator, which won the Best Action Game Award of GAMEST. What actually promoted the association between them was Alien vs. Predator on screen in 2004, which won fervent response. Soon in 2007, Aliens vs Predator – Requiem was launched.

The setting of the two major species is also a “fatal edge”. In a certain remote century, predators descended on the earth, leading the earthians to improve their infrastructure and create a spiritual civilization, bringing them both material and spiritual abundance, thus worshiped as gods by the innocent earthians. However, predators actually wanted to turn the earth into a hunting ground, inspiring females to sacrifice themselves as the mother of the aliens, making offerings to “the gods”. The bred alien babies will be used as prey for the baby predators in their Adult Ceremony, which means the baby predators must undergo a rigorous test before they could grow up. The situation is not easy for alien babies, either, so they tangled with each other for decades.

Despite the complicated entanglement between them, the two IP are the most classic and favourable alien biological roles in the eyes of their fans, and one of them is going back on screen soon. As is learned, Predator will be on screen in North America on Sept. 14th. You cannot miss this!
