Netflix Announced To Launch Dedicated Game Studio In Helsinki

Streaming giant Netflix Inc NFLX said it is establishing an internal games studio in Helsinki, the capital city of Finland, with Marko Lastikka as the studio director.Marko Lastikka served as vice president and general manager at Zynga games for the past five years, most recently working on the viral franchise Farmville. Before that, he was and executive producer and general manager at Electronic Arts (EA).
“This is another step in our vision to build a world-class games studio that will bring a variety of delightful and deeply engaging original games — with no ads and no in-app purchases — to our hundreds of millions of members around the world,” Netflix said in an announcement.
Regarding the rationale for choosing Helsinki, Netflix said it is home to some of the best game talents in the world.
“This will be a games studio that we build from scratch, and our second games studio in Helsinki alongside Next Games, which became part of Netflix earlier this year,” the company said.
The company also has two other game studios: Boss Fight Entertainment, which it also acquired in March and Night School Studio, which it bought last September.
