Let SWAP/MEAT Cook: Totally Normal Co-Op Shooter Steams into Playtest After Winning devcom Indie Award
Hot off the Grill at Gamescom and PAX, One More Game Asks Players for a Taste Test Starting
SWAP/MEAT, a very new (and very normal) co-op shooter from veteran devs One More Game, launches into its next playtest this Friday, September 6 at 11 AM Pacific Time (through Tuesday, September 10 at 12 PM PDT). The game’s hot off the grill: a buffet of Gamescom and PAX events, including the Future Games Show, the Seattle Indies Expo, and devcom, where the title got the nod for the ‘Creative Overkill’ category at the show’s Indie Awards.
Less than a year into development, SWAP/MEAT is a roguelite third-person shooter where you raid the weirdest worlds and angriest aliens in the universe…for their meat. Swap meat with the enemies you defeat to steal their abilities and augment your hero on the fly, and fight alongside your friends to bring home the bacon.
Interested players can apply to join the playtest, and for a limited time, if you refer three friends, your whole squad gets in. The first Meat Lab playtest took place in July, and feedback from players helped the OMG team improve their savory recipe, with list of patch notes that looks like the menu at The Cheesecake Factory, including a multitude of visual upgrades, bug fixes, and systems refinement.
“We couldn’t be more hyped to invite players to sample the rich umami flavor of SWAP/MEAT,” said Jamie Stormbreaker, co-founder of OMG and game director of SWAP/MEAT. “It’s true that we’re showing the game after less than a year of cook time — but we can assure players the risk of foodborne illness is wildly overstated by the Intergalactic Food & Drug Administration. Don’t worry about it.”
In SWAP/MEAT, 1-4 players take on the role of a ‘Meat Scientist’ for Rangus Meats, a multi-galactic corporation dedicated to discovering the ultimate sustainable meat product to feed the universe (…at least that’s what they claim). On a run, players drop onto a series of increasingly challenging planets and engage in combat with the unfriendly locals, ‘swapping meat’ with the alien weirdos they defeat. Players can attach a wide swath of strange (and usually squishy) heads, legs and torsos to their bodies, gaining powerful abilities that let players change up their playstyles on the fly. Squads who successfully extract the ‘meat cores’ from three planets will face a brutal brawl with a bizarre boss.
