Akemi Takada, iconic Japanese character designer and master watercolour illustrator, brings her major solo exhibition Akemi Takada Solo Exhibition –Angel Touch– to Taipei. The show runs October 3 to November 1, 2026. The showcase features precious original art, limited fine-art prints and cross-franchise illustrations from Creamy Mami, the Magic Angel. Supporting programmes include a limited autograph session, behind-the-scenes art documentary screening and exclusive exhibition merchandise. This marks Akemi Takada’s large-scale original art exhibition in Taipei after many years.

1. Artist Profile: Akemi Takada

Akemi Takada is one of the defining female character designers and illustrators of Japan’s golden anime era in the 1980s. She studied graphic design at Tama Art University. She began her career at Tatsunoko Production before becoming a freelance creator. Her signature style is recognised by translucent watercolour washes and soft, dreamlike colour gradients, crafting tender, vivid young-girl characters that shaped anime aesthetic culture across Asia.

She is globally celebrated as the original character designer of the landmark 1983 magical-girl anime Creamy Mami, the Magic Angel, creating dual heroines Megu Morisawa and pop idol Creamy Mami. Her portfolio also includes character designs for classic titles such as Urusei Yatsura, Kimagure Orange Road and Patlabor, covering magical girl, coming-of-age romance and sci-fi mecha genres. Beyond animation commissions, Takada continuously creates picture books, book cover art and original illustrations. She has held solo shows in Japan, Hong Kong and Taipei, maintaining a multi-generational fanbase. For the –Angel Touch– exhibition, she embraces the core concept: “to bring happiness to those who seek happiness”, presenting new and retrospective works spanning over four decades of creation.

2. Exhibition Basics: Schedule, Venue & Admission Rules

1. Exhibition Period: October 3 (Sat) – November 1 (Sun), 2026
2. Venue: Taipei City. Full venue address to be released later.
3. Opening Hours: 11:00–18:00, with one fixed weekly closing day. Admission is free.
4. Reservation & entry management

• The opening day (October 3) requires advance time-slot reservation via online platform. Quotas are limited and available on first-come, first-served basis.
• During regular exhibition days, numbered entry tickets may be distributed on-site for crowd control.
• Original art and limited prints are available via queued / lottery numbered tickets. Each visitor may purchase one original artwork only.

3. Core Exhibition Displays

The Taipei edition follows the core theme of –Angel Touch–, presenting four categories of artworks:

1. Creamy Mami, the Magic Angeloriginal paintings: Brand-new key visual painting created for this exhibition, alongside rare licensed artworks and character sheets, serving as the centrepiece of the show.
2. Retrospective illustrations from classic IPs: Selected original drawings and reproduction prints from Urusei Yatsura, Kimagure Orange Roadand Patlabor, showing the evolution of Takada’s art across decades.
3. Independent original illustrations: Watercolour art created outside commercial animation commissions, showcasing the artist’s personal artistic vision.
4. Exclusive 88Graph fine–art prints: Two limited editions, DX hand-signed version (30 copies) and standard hand-signed version (100 copies), sold exclusively at the Taipei venue.
5. Making–of documentary: A 15-minute screening records the full painting workflow of the exhibition key visual, from line sketch to layered translucent watercolour rendering, allowing visitors to observe Takada’s hand-painting technique.

4. Key On–Site Activities

4.1 Limited In–Person Autograph Session with Akemi Takada

• Time: Selected afternoon date within exhibition period
• Eligibility: Limited to the first 100 customers purchasing original artwork or 88Graph prints on- One ticket per person; tickets are non-transferable and resale prohibited.
• Format: Akemi Takada will sign exclusive coloured art paper for buyers. Purchasers unable to attend the signing session will receive the pre-signed coloured paper shipped together with purchased goods.
• Important notes: Only the buyer may enter; audio and video recording are forbidden. Signatures are limited to official coloured paper. No outside artbooks or merchandise will be signed. ID verification may be required for entry.

4.2 Taipei Exclusive Merchandise Sales

Creamy Mami themed merchandise will be available at venue and via online pre-orders, including acrylic charms, large acrylic stands, art cards and limited reproductions.
