Industry Visionary John Gaeta to Keynote VIEW Conference 2018
Renowned Oscar-winning VFX supervisor and innovative AR/VR technologist set to present at the October Turin event.

TURIN, ITALY — The VIEW Conference 2018 has announced that Magic Leap senior vice president for creative strategy John Gaeta will deliver a keynote address during the annual conference, this year running October 22-26 in Turin, Italy.
“I am so pleased that our attendees will hear from this remarkably creative artist,” notes conference director Dr. Maria Elena Gutierrez. “I cannot wait to welcome John Gaeta to our VIEW family. I know his address will be unique, provocative, and inspiring.”
Gaeta is a visionary and innovator, particularly known for his work as overall visual effects supervisor on the Matrix trilogy, for which he received an Oscar. Now, he is helping Magic Leap bring the Matrix to everyone (sans machine dominance).
To create the Matrix trilogy, Gaeta and the visual effects teams introduced radical new filmmaking techniques that have since become commonplace — many people on those teams have gone on to do pioneering work in virtual reality.
Prior to TheMatrix, Gaeta was an assistant VFX supervisor on Judge Dredd, second VFX supervisor on Eraser, and location reality capture supervisor on What Dreams May Come. He followed the Matrix trilogy with the Wachowski siblings’ Speed Racer, for which he was VFX supervisor, and their Jupiter Ascending, for which he was visual effects designer.
From 2013 through October, 2017, Gaeta co-founded and was the executive creative director of Lucasfilm’s ILMxLAB where he helped conceive and collaborated on multiple future-generation immersive entertainment projects. From there, he moved to his current position at Magic Leap, which recently announced its first mixed reality headset, the Magic Leap One.

The international VIEW Conference, Italy’s premiere event for Computer Graphics, Interactive and Immersive Storytelling, Animation, Visual Effects, Games, and VR, AR, and Mixed Reality, brings top professionals from those fields to the beautiful baroque city of Torino, Italy for a week of talks, presentations, and workshops.
Registration for the conference is now open.
