Historic Handshake Between Game Engine Giants: Unity Creations Can Now Be Published to Fortnite with One Click

At this year’s Unite 2025, Unity’s annual developer conference, two titans of the game engine industry – Unity and Epic Games – announced a landmark partnership. Starting next year, millions of Unity developers will be able to directly publish their creations to the globally top-tier gaming platform, Fortnite, reaching hundreds of millions of players.

Powerhouse Alliance to Build an Open Ecosystem

This collaboration marks the first deep integration between the two competing engines. Unity CEO Matt Bromberg and Epic Games founder and CEO Tim Sweeney shared the announcement stage, making it a focal point for the industry.

According to the agreement, the partnership will be bidirectional:

  • Unity Creations in Fortnite: Games developed with Unity will be publishable directly to “Fortnite Island” or similar UGC platforms within Fortnite, significantly streamlining the release process.

  • Unity Store Supports UE Engine: Unity will add support for Epic’s Unreal Engine games in its newly launched web store toolkit, providing a unified commerce solution for developers using different engines.

Leadership Perspective: Openness and Choice Are Key for the Future

Leaders from both companies emphasized that the core of this partnership is “openness” and “interconnection,” aiming to drive prosperity for the entire game ecosystem.

Unity CEO Matt Bromberg stated: “This partnership will create more opportunities for game developers worldwide. Choice and open systems drive growth for everyone in the game ecosystem.”

Epic’s Tim Sweeney compared the move to the early days of the internet: “We believe companies need to work together to build a connected, fair, and open metaverse. By partnering with Unity, we are helping developers build fun games, reach a broader audience, and succeed.”

Comprehensive Unity Product Updates, AI Tools Stand Out

Beyond the partnership with Epic, Unity also announced upgrades across its full suite of game development products during today’s keynote, including the core Unity standard, product verification processes, and Unity Studio.

Most notably, the official AI tool – Unity AI Gateway, slated for launch in 2026, captured significant attention. Defined as the “officially supported solution for securely connecting third-party AI agents to Unity,” it will empower developers to integrate AI features more efficiently.

Additionally, its advertising and analytics engine, Unity Vector, received major improvements.

This historic handshake between Unity and Epic not only breaks down barriers between technical platforms but could also reshape the landscape of game development and distribution. As Bromberg stated, “We want to be the bridge between developer creativity and players… We will give developers control over their success – providing them with real choice and the ability to seamlessly do everything they need in one place, within Unity.”
