Epsilon Film jumps on board family animation ‘Skip’

German sales outfit Epsilon Film has snapped up world sales rights to Skip, the latest project from Hamburg-based animation powerhouse Ulysses Filmproduktion, and will present the project to buyers for the first time at the European Film Market (EFM) in Berlin next month.
The film is produced by Ulysses’ Sonja Matthes and Emely Christians whose credits include The Amazing Maurice, the Niko The Reindeer franchise and Ooops! Noah Is Gone….
Skip was developed by director Toby Genkel, who collaborated with Rob Sprackling, Keiron Self and Giles New on the screenplay. The project was presented at Cartoon Movie last summer, where organisers said it was in the top 10 projects which received most attention from buyers.
Set in an animal underworld, the film follows Skip, a funny, fast-talking rabbit, trapped working for Walzer, a ruthless white rat whose criminal empire runs like clockwork.
Animation is handled by Germany’s Studio Rakete, which has worked on productions including The Amazing Maurice and Stitch Head.
Epsilon described the film as “high energy” family fare, with a “bold, irreverent tone, designed to remind audiences that true heroism isn’t about superpowers, but about having the courage to do the right thing”.
“It was important for us to have a strong international partner by our side from the very beginning,” said Ulysses’ Christians. “We see it as our responsibility to create films that entertain the whole family while conveying positive messages.”
This is one of several animated projects in recent years on which Epsilon has worked with Ulysses. They are also partnering on The Amazing Maurice 2 and Mimi And Harold – Out Of Frame.
Family film specialists Epsilon Film was launched at the Berlinale in 2024 by former Global Screen executives Alice von Einem and Julia Weber. It is a joint venture with the Munich-based Beta Film Group.
Alongside its animated titles, Epsilon’s slate also includes Michael Ende’s Momo, featuring the voice of Martin Freeman, Lassie And The Wild Bear, UK Sky original production Robin And The Hoods, and the third and fourth instalments in the The School Of Magical Animals franchise.
