FMX 2026: THE ROAD AHEAD
“Our task is not to predict the future, but to make it possible.” – Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
Film and digital media have blended storytelling and technology since their inception, with engineers providing artists with the tools to bring their ideas to life in ever new ways.
The most recent tool in the box is Artificial Intelligence, triggering the latest in a series of transformations since the advent of the talkies 100 years ago. As with changing global markets and shifting audience behavior, the key is adaptation: the creative industries have a history of constantly reinventing themselves – to be continued.
FMX 2026 will set the stage for people who are shaping the future with their confidence, resilience and creativity in the midst of the ongoing transformation.

A Mirror of Digital Filmmaking History
In 1994, the founding fathers of the Film & Media Exchange recognized the sign of the times: digital imagery had been brought to vivid life in “Jurassic Park” a year earlier, and the first computer-animated feature would hit the world stage in 1995, when “Toy Story” amazed audiences.
Founded by Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg as an event for its students, FMX quickly developed into the global platform it is today. Many of the people who pushed the art and technology of film and media forward over the past three decades have found their way to FMX.
Expertise & Inspiration
In the center of Stuttgart, they shared their expertise and inspiration with an audience of peers and students from around the world. And they continue to do so, kicking off informal discussions and serious networking that reverberate through the international community.
At FMX 2026, let’s reflect on the achievements of the past, dive deep into the current state of things, and look at the road ahead. We hope you are as excited about the 30th edition of FMX as we are about shaping it!

Save the Date:
The 30th edition of FMX will take place May 5 to 8, 2026.
