Epic Games Unveils Unreal Engine 6, Rocket League Becomes the First Game Powered by the New Engine

On May 25, 2026, Epic Games officially unveiled the next-generation game engine Unreal Engine 6 (UE6) during the RLCS Paris Major. Rocket League, the iconic vehicular soccer competitive title, has been confirmed as the world’s first game upgraded to run on UE6. This live in-engine gameplay demonstration marks a brand-new chapter for the Unreal Engine series.
Epic Games and developer Psyonix released real-time rendered gameplay footage of Rocket League running on UE6. Remarkable improvements are seen in stadium environments, vehicle models, lighting reflections and material textures, delivering a dramatic visual leap. The moment is hailed as the arrival of a new era for Rocket League.
Core Advantages of Unreal Engine 6
Unlike Unreal Engine 5 which focused heavily on graphical advancement, UE6 targets fundamental technical upgrades and ecosystem integration. It adopts multi-threaded game simulation to eliminate long-standing frame drop, loading and latency issues.
Seamless integration with UEFN tools unifies the underlying framework for commercial game development and user-generated content creation. Equipped with the self-developed Verse programming language and brand-new Scene Graph system, UE6 streamlines development workflows and facilitates efficient teamwork among large development teams.
According to Epic CEO Tim Sweeney, the UE6 preview version is expected to launch within two to three years, with the official release slated for around 2028. The early gameplay showcase indicates accelerated research and development progress.
Rocket League Makes Historic Leap from UE3 to UE6
Having operated on Unreal Engine 3 ever since its launch, Rocket League skips Unreal Engine 5 and upgrades directly to UE6, making it an extraordinary iteration in the gaming industry. The updated visuals feature photorealistic details, refined physical effects and immersive scene presentation.
The official release date of the UE6-powered Rocket League remains undisclosed, while the optimization project is well underway. Teasers also hint at deeper connectivity between Rocket League, Fortnite and other Epic titles to build an interconnected gaming ecosystem.
Far-reaching Industry Influence
Following the launch of UE5 in 2022, the speedy debut of UE6 reflects Epic’s ambition in technological innovation. Beyond visual enhancement, UE6 prioritizes performance optimization, ecosystem construction and development efficiency, setting new standards for next-gen game production and supporting applications across gaming, film, industrial design and more fields.
Full technical specifications and commercial deployment plans have not been announced. Further official details will be revealed at Unreal Fest Chicago in June 2026.
