“Super Mario Galaxy Movie” Sets April Release: Mario Brothers Embark on Interstellar Adventure

The highly anticipated animated film, “Super Mario Galaxy Movie,” is set to hit theaters worldwide in April 2026. As the sequel to the 2023 blockbuster “The Super Mario Bros. Movie,” which grossed over $1.3 billion globally, this installment will transport audiences from the familiar Mushroom Kingdom into the vast expanse of the galaxy.
Production Team: Core Cast Returns, Oscar Winner Joins
The film continues to be directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, with a screenplay by Matthew Fogel. The core voice cast returns, including Chris Pratt (Mario), Anya Taylor-Joy (Princess Peach), Charlie Day (Luigi), and Jack Black (Bowser). New additions include Oscar winner Brie Larson voicing Rosalina and Ben Safdie voicing Bowser Jr.
The film is produced by Illumination founder Chris Meledandri and legendary Nintendo game designer Shigeru Miyamoto, maintaining the golden production team from the previous installment.
Story Preview: Intergalactic Adventure, New and Old Characters Unite
The story expands from the Mushroom Kingdom into the depths of the galaxy. Mario and his friends embark on an intergalactic quest to save the kidnapped Princess Peach, joining forces with Rosalina, the guardian of the stars. Together, they must recover the Power Stars and confront Bowser and his son’s mechanized forces.
In the trailer, Yoshi makes his film debut, charming audiences with his signature ability to “swallow enemies and lay eggs.” Bowser Jr. makes a powerful entrance with a new dark design, piloting the giant mech “Megaleg” and boldly declaring, “The greatest battle of my life is about to begin!”
Furthermore, grand scenes showcased include Rosalina’s Comet Observatory, Bowser Jr.’s mechanized army, desert chases, and interstellar travel. A glimpse of the game’s iconic “gravity-defying” mechanic is also shown, with characters in spacesuits running upside down on planetary surfaces.
Global Release Schedule: Rolling Out from April 1st
“Super Mario Galaxy Movie” will have its world premiere in North America on April 1, 2026, with a wide release on April 3, and will open in Japan on April 24. It is scheduled for release in Taiwan on April 1.
As the “main course” in the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the “Super Mario Brothers” franchise, this film not only pays homage to the classic 2007 game “Super Mario Galaxy,” but Shigeru Miyamoto has also promised surprises for “fans from every era of Mario.”
