Netflix and MAPPA Deepen Global Strategic Partnership, Set for Exclusive Worldwide Simultaneous Premieres of Multiple Original Anime Titles

Tokyo/Los Angeles, [Date of Release] – Streaming giant Netflix announced today a new strategic partnership with top Japanese anime production studio MAPPA Co., Ltd. According to the agreement, the two parties will jointly develop original anime projects with a global perspective, encompassing full-process collaboration from story development to merchandise. Additionally, Netflix will serve as the exclusive global streaming platform for multiple future original works from MAPPA, offering simultaneous worldwide premieres to its members.
This collaboration signifies an upgrade in the relationship between the two parties since establishing a business alliance in 2022. Previously, several MAPPA works have already been available on Netflix, including global phenomenons such as Jujutsu Kaisen, Attack on Titan The Final Season, Hell’s Paradise, Kakegurui Twin, Ranma½, maboroshi, and The Rose of Versailles. Netflix stated that more than half of Netflix members watch anime on the platform, and anime viewing hours on the platform have tripled over the past five years.
MAPPA is renowned for its groundbreaking production quality and philosophy of respecting creators’ freedom, consistently pushing the boundaries of the anime industry. Works like Chainsaw Man adopted a studio-led approach to IP development and merchandising, while the success of Jujutsu Kaisen significantly fueled the global wave of Japanese anime.
Manabu Otsuka, President and CEO of MAPPA, says, “We have worked with Netflix on various projects in the past, but this expanded partnership is based on MAPPA’s core belief in being an independent studio — both creatively and in business. Japanese animation studios must proactively lead every stage, from understanding global audience needs and developing projects, to reaching viewers and expanding related businesses. MAPPA is committed to deepening our collaboration with Netflix, aiming for a long-term, win-win partnership.”
Kaata Sakamoto, Vice President of Content – Japan at Netflix, adds, “MAPPA is a remarkable studio that has continuously taken on bold challenges and achieved unprecedented forms of expression. At Netflix, we also value the passion and dedication of creators. By combining MAPPA’s unique approach to anime production with Netflix’s global reach — and the courage to take risks, which is essential to creating compelling content — we hope to further expand the possibilities of anime. We are fully committed to delivering new works and excitement to fans around the world.”
It is reported that under this expanded cooperation framework, several new anime projects from both parties have already entered the planning and production stages. The shared goal of Netflix and MAPPA is to bring more original anime from Japan to a global audience, broaden opportunities for creative collaboration, and pioneer new frontiers in anime expression.
