The Film Industry Standard “Digital film LED Cinema Technical Requirements and Measurement Methods” was released

The film industry standard “Digital film LED Cinema Technical Requirements and Measurement Methods” was officially released recently, which is the first digital film LED cinema industry standard in China, and also the first industry standard released since the establishment of the national film standardization Technical Committee.

The standard coordinates the development status and evolution trend of international and domestic digital film LED cinema, based on extensive testing and verification analysis, fully considers the cinema screening environment, scientifically develops technical indicators and measurement methods, and ensures the excellent presentation quality of LED film screening system.

The standard is advanced, scientific, practical, forward-looking and operable, which has great significance and far-reaching impact on promoting the standardized and orderly development of China’s digital film LED cinema, promoting the promotion and application of domestic LED film projection system, and serving the construction of modern fine cinema.

The State Film Administration recently issued a notice that the “Digital film LED cinema Technical requirements and measurement methods” has been reviewed and approved as the film industry standard, the standard number is DY/T 8-2023, and it has been implemented since November 20, 2023.

The standard specifies the optical and acoustic technical requirements and measurement methods of digital film LED cinema, is the first digital film LED cinema industry standard in China, and is also the first industry standard issued since the establishment of the national film standardization Technical Committee, which has guiding significance for improving the quality of digital film LED cinema in China and standardizing the research and development and production of related equipment. Will effectively promote China’s independent intellectual property rights LED film projection system to break foreign technology and market monopoly, continue to expand and deepen the application.

The digital movie LED projection system based on active luminescent display technology is composed of LED display screen, LED controller, digital movie player server (IMB) and sound recovery system, replacing the traditional movie projection mode of projection display system and screen, etc., providing a new presentation way for digital movie projection. It has technical advantages such as high brightness, high contrast, display consistency, scalable screen size and resolution, and commercial advantages such as easy to carry out digital content value-added services.

China has many years of R&D and manufacturing accumulation in LED system design and development, and has a complete LED industry chain, covering chip, device, module, screen, panel, IC, controller and packaging and other fields, with a high global market share. At present, China has 10 brands, 18 types of LED movie display to break foreign technology monopoly, have passed DCI testing and certification, in China, the United States has more than 10 cinemas installed and put into use, and a number of LED cinema construction projects are actively advancing.

However, although China’s LED film projection technology has entered the stage of rapid development and technological innovation, domestic system equipment is accelerating the application of domestic and overseas markets, but in recent years there has been a lack of industry standards in line with the development status of LED cinema and future demand.

In this context, the China Film Science and Technology Institute, together with industry institutions and LED system manufacturers, coordinated the development status quo and evolution trend of digital film LED cinema technology at home and abroad, combined with the actual development of China’s LED cinema and future needs, with the goal of effectively ensuring excellent screening effects, based on extensive testing and verification. Scientific development of digital film LED cinema technical indicators and measurement methods, to ensure that the standards meet the advanced nature, scientific, practical, forward-looking and operable, to promote the standardized, orderly, healthy and sustainable development of China’s LED cinema, to promote domestic LED system equipment research and development, manufacturing and promotion of application.
