Unmaze now available for iOS and Android

Unmaze, both a video game and an interactive tale, now available for iOS and Android

The latest game from ARTE, Upian and Hiver prod uses the light sensor to rethink interactivity

ARTE, publisher and co-producer, Upian and Hiver prod, co-producers, are pleased to announce that their narrative video game Unmaze is now available on iOS and Android. The first chapter is free to download, the rest of the game is available for 4,49€ / 3.99$ / 3.99£.

In Unmaze, the player takes on the role of Ariadne as she attempts to guide her withdrawn younger brother Asterion and her detached but charismatic lover Theseus out of the labyrinth, both of whom have been missing for several days.

With a mysterious crystal in hand, the player can visualize the map of the labyrinth, but also discuss with each of the characters and help them make the right choices in the face of the dangers of the maze.

Unmaze interacts with the ambient light thanks to the light sensor of the phone. If the players place their phone in the dark, they interact with Asterion. In the light, on the other hand, they can follow Theseus during his exploration of the labyrinth.

But the player can only follow one character at a time. If one of them is left behind, he will continue to wander alone in the labyrinth. With each change of light, the story changes, and each choice made by the player can have dramatic consequences for the characters.

“For Asterion and Theseus, the encounter with the Minotaur becomes an initiation test,” explains Nicolas Pelloille-Oudart, the game’s designer, “and it is the player’s choices that will determine their fate: who will be the monster, who will become the hero?”

Throughout the 6 chapters of Unmaze, the player will have to balance his time between each character in order to hopefully succeed in saving them both.

Unmaze is available now on iOS and Android, the first chapter is playable for free.
