Ubisoft’s Tencent-Backed Subsidiary Officially Named Vantage Studios, to Drive Free-to-Play Innovation
Ubisoft, a world-renowned creator and publisher of video games, announced that its subsidiary dedicated to developing and publishing free-to-play online games has been officially named Vantage Studios. The subsidiary was previously confirmed to have secured strategic investment and support from Tencent.
The establishment of Vantage Studios is aimed at leveraging Ubisoft’s award-winning IPs to create high-quality, immersive free-to-play experiences for players worldwide. The new name, “Vantage,” signifies the unique “advantageous position” the company holds—combining Ubisoft’s world-class creativity and development expertise with Tencent’s deep experience and resources in free-to-play operations and global publishing.
Operating as an agile and independent team within the Ubisoft ecosystem, Vantage Studios will have autonomy over its creative and operational decisions, focusing on incubating new projects from the ground up and reimagining Ubisoft’s classic IPs for the free-to-play model. The studio is currently developing its first project, though specific details have not yet been disclosed.
“The naming of Vantage Studios marks a significant milestone in our partnership with Tencent,” said Yves Guillemot, Co-Founder and CEO of Ubisoft. “The name perfectly captures our ambition: to operate from a position of strength that combines Ubisoft’s creative vision with top-tier free-to-play expertise. We believe Vantage Studios will open new chapters for our IPs and reach a broader global audience.”
“We are excited to partner with Ubisoft to support the growth of Vantage Studios,” said Steven Ma, Senior Vice President at Tencent. “The free-to-play model holds immense potential and vibrancy globally. By combining the strengths of both parties, we look forward to Vantage Studios creating outstanding titles that define the next generation of gaming experiences.”
Vantage Studios will be headquartered in Europe and is recruiting top talent globally across development, operations, and business functions.
