Tom Hanks may Star in Disney’s Live-Action Film “The Adventures of Pinocchio”
Tom Hanks may star in Disney’s live-action version of Pinocchio/The Adventures of Pinocchio, which is still in the early stage of negotiations. He may play the old woodcarver Geppetto, who created the little wooden puppet Pinocchio and regarded it as his son. Pinocchio is known for having a short nose that becomes longer when lying.
The film is directed by Paul King (“Paddington 1\ 2”), who is also working with Chris Weitz (“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story”, “Cinderella”) and Simon Farnaby (“Paddington 2”) to write a new version of the script.
The 1940 old version of Pinocchio is the second cartoon produced by Disney since “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” in 1937. Based on the fairy tale novel written by the Italian writer Carlo Collodi, it tells the story of the old woodcarver making a wooden puppet, the boy Pinocchio, who was given life by the fairy and was told that if he could show courage, honesty and loyalty, he would become a real boy. Pinocchio embarked on a series of adventures, transforming from a wayward, mischievous, lazy, unloving puppet to a polite, hardworking, learning-dedicated, caring and kind-hearted boy. The film won two Oscars: Best Soundtrack and Best Original Song in 1941.
