According to the report of Mansour Jahani, an independent and international cinema journalist, With the announcement of the selection committee for the representative of Iranian cinema to the Academy Awards, the film “The Night Guardian” directed by Reza Mirkarimi was unanimously selected as the representative of Iranian cinema at the 2024 Oscar ceremony among the three finalists.

The members of the committee to select the representative of Iranian cinema to the Oscar Academy, after holding several meetings and selecting the three final candidates, chose the movie “The Night Guardian” directed by Reza Mirkarimi as the representative of Iranian cinema at the 96th Academy Awards.

Raed Faridzadeh, the vice president of international affairs of Farabi Cinema Foundation and the spokesperson of the selection committee for Iran’s cinema representative to the Oscar Academy 2024, said about the process of Iran’s representative to the aforementioned ceremony: the selection committee, after holding a series of meetings and reviewing 42 eligible films, selected 15 films in the first stage. To review the selection and finally, with multiple reviews, he selected three films as the final candidates for the upcoming Oscar Academy nomination list.

Faridzadeh went on to say that three films “Conjugal Visit” directed by Omid Shams, “The Night Guardian” by Reza Mirkarimi and “The Town” by Ali Hazrati, have reached the final stage of review and finally the final selection of the committee to introduce the representative of Iranian cinema to The Oscar Academy wanted to respect all the reviewed works, and one of these three films will go to the Academy Awards 2024 as a representative of Iranian cinema.

In the end, the vice president of international affairs of the Farabi Cinema Foundation, emphasizing on valuing all the reviewed works, said: After considering all aspects, the members of the committee for selecting the representative of Iranian cinema unanimously chose the film “The Night Guardian” directed by Reza Mirkarimi as the final representative of Iranian cinema. Iran was chosen for the 2024 Oscar Academy.

The movie “The Night Guardian” is the 29th representative of Iranian cinema nominated to the Academy of Oscars, which will hold its 96th edition in 2024.

Manoochehr Shahsavari, Rasoul Sadrameli, Alireza Hosseini, Ahmad Muradpour, Mohammad Dawoodi, Akbar Nabovi, Parviz Sheikhtadi, Behrooz Shoaibi and Raed Faridzadeh (secretary of the committee) were the founding members of the selection committee for the representative of Iranian cinema to the Oscar Academy 2024.
