“The Legend of Zelda” Live-Action Movie Delayed to May 7, 2027

Nintendo recently announced that the live-action adaptation of its iconic game The Legend of Zelda has been postponed. The North American release date has been shifted from March 26, 2027, to May 7, 2027. The film is co-produced by Nintendo and Avi Arad, head of Arad Productions. Nintendo is financing over 50% of the project, while Sony Pictures Entertainment will handle global distribution and co-investment.
Set in a fictional fantasy world, The Legend of Zelda is a classic game series with a history spanning over 30 years. Since its debut in 1986, dozens of installments have been released across multiple gaming platforms. The live-action movie not only brings together top-tier talent in the industry but also carries the deep emotional connection fans have with this legendary IP.
In the games, players control Link and embark on adventures across the land of Hyrule to rescue Princess Zelda from enemies like Ganondorf. Accordingly, the film plans to utilize “high-quality visual effects” to recreate Hyrule’s fantastical landscapes, meeting the expectations of devoted fans.
“For production reasons, we are changing the release date of the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda to May 7, 2027,” Shigeru Miyamoto, director and general manager of Nintendo’s Entertainment Analysis and Development Division said. “It will be some weeks later than the release timing we originally announced, and we will take the extra time to make the film as good as it can be. Thank you for your patience.”
