For the last 63 years, Annecy has hosted the world’s leading festival dedicated to animation film.
In June 2023, some 16,000 professionals and enthusiasts from nearly a hundred countries came to celebrate animation in all its forms.
The epitome of this history and its success, the forthcoming Cité internationale du cinéma d’animation enters a new phase with its construction work getting under way. The Cité, at the heart of the Haras d’Annecy, is backed by the City of Annecy, the Département de la Haute-Savoie, the Région Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes and the State.
As a result of this regional project, the animation film world capital will have a truly exceptional setting for all audiences to revel in the diversity of this art form.

The Cité internationale du cinéma d’animation will take up residence right at the heart of the city. The Haras, comprising 2.6-hectare wooded grounds and historical buildings, will welcome the Cité and a gourmet market, to discover another part of the local heritage.
A funny historical coincidence: on the cusp of the 1880s, as Émile Reynaud was showing his first animated screenings, the Haras was hosting its first galloping horses!
