Eagerly Awaited Special Programmes

Midnight Specials: “almost” late-night screenings but just as delirious as ever!

Absolute must see: a chainsaw-wheedling George Washington teams up with his best beer-buddy Sam Adams to bring down the English in America (distributed by Netflix), a tongue-in-cheek satire on the American Revolution.

Another thrill: The Spine of Night by Philip Gelatt and Morgan Galen King, is an epic fantasy that was screened at the South by Southwest Festival, or SXSW, reminiscent of Ralph Bakshi’s work that redesigned adult animation film from the ‘70s.

And Canvas by Ryan Guiterman, a horror drama where a journalist and FBI agent have trouble with a demon murderer.

Annecy Classics: Timeless Films that Have Made their Mark on Animation’s History

The documentary Claydream (presented at Sundance 2021) is a modern fantasy. It retraces Will Vinton’s career, considered as the father of Claymation, he revolutionized the world of animation in the 1980s and ‘90s. When Vinton picks up a ball of clay, he sees infinite possibilities…

2 Must-See Previews!

Previews, the new format launched in 2020, gives you the chance to come and meet leading directors and discover exclusive clips of their films before they are released internationally.

In 2020, festivalgoers had the possibility of viewing, among others, clips from Vanille, Even Mice Belong in Heaven, and Yakari.

In 2021, we will find Inu-Oh, the new film, presented last year as a WIP, by Masaaki Yuasa (Ride Your Wave, in competition at Annecy 2019, Lou Over the Wall, Cristal for a Feature Film in 2017) and Space Jam 2 by Malcolm D. Lee (Warner Studios).
