The 33rd Stuttgart International Festival of Animated Film Concludes Successfully, Celebrating Global Animation Excellence

The 33rd Stuttgart International Festival of Animated Film (ITFS) came to a successful close after six days in Stuttgart, Germany. As Germany’s largest professional animation festival and one of the most influential in Europe, this year’s event once again transformed Stuttgart into a global hub for animated art, offering diverse programming, professional excellence, and a vibrant atmosphere.
The festival officially opened on May 5, presenting a rich selection of animated works from around the world across multiple venues, including cinemas in Stuttgart’s city center and the open-air Palace Square. The program featured competitive screenings, master talks, professional forums, creator workshops, interactive experiences, and a gaming section, allowing audiences to experience the diverse魅力 and creative energy of animated art up close.
Since its founding in 1982, ITFS has been dedicated to connecting top-tier international animation with local creative ecosystems, balancing artistic exploration, industry exchange, and public arts education. The festival provides a platform for outstanding international animated works rarely seen in Germany, fostering aesthetic education and deepening cross-cultural dialogue. Heike Moser, Commercial Director of the festival, noted that ITFS builds an important bridge for international animation creators and opens a window for audiences into a diverse world of creativity.

This year, a highlight was the 2D animated promotional short film KEY, created especially for the festival by students of the Animation Department at the Film Academy Baden-Württemberg. With its imaginative visual language, the film symbolizes the creative diversity and exploratory spirit of the global animation field and has received widespread acclaim.
Simultaneously, Stuttgart Animation Week took place, with ITFS and FMX (the Conference on Animation, Effects, Games and Immersive Media) joining forces to form an integrated industry ecosystem of “festival + market + conference.” This platform facilitated efficient networking among animation creators, producers, educational institutions, and technology partners, promoting coordinated development in animation production, technological innovation, and industry collaboration.
With the announcement of award winners and the conclusion of screening events, the 33rd Stuttgart International Festival of Animated Film drew to a圆满 close. This gathering of creativity, storytelling, and exchange not only delivered breathtaking audiovisual experiences to global audiences but also injected new energy and direction into the animation industry. The festival further solidified Stuttgart’s important position in the international animation field, helping animated art transcend borders and connect more hearts, passions, and imaginations.
