Netflix Shuts Down Boss Fight Entertainment, the Studio Behind ‘Squid Game: Unleashed’

Netflix has shuttered its internal game development studio, Boss Fight Entertainment, according to multiple LinkedIn posts from the studio’s leadership. Boss Fight was the developer behind Squid Game: Unleashed, a mobile game based on the record-breaking Netflix series.
This move marks a significant step in Netflix’s ongoing strategic realignment of its gaming division. Boss Fight, based in Texas, was initially acquired by Netflix in 2022 as part of its push to build in-house game development capabilities.
The closure follows a broader consolidation within Netflix’s gaming arm over the past year, which included the shutdown of its inaugural internal studio in California. While scaling back its proprietary development efforts, Netflix continues to invest in gaming, seemingly pivoting its strategy toward a greater reliance on partnerships and licensing deals with third-party developers to leverage its extensive IP library.
Netflix Games is offered as a free benefit to all subscribers, featuring no ads or in-app purchases. Netflix has not yet issued an official public statement regarding the closure of Boss Fight Entertainment.
