Netflix has released a new behind-the-scenes featurette from their just released MOWGLI: Legend of the Jungle, which provides a fascinating glimpse into the performance capture process first-time director Andy Serkis has mastered as an actor and used extensively, through his London workshop, The Imaginarium Studios, in the film’s production. Serkis, best known for his ground-breaking performances used as underlying reference for some of the world’s most popular digital characters, including Gollum from The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Kong in King Kong and most recently, Caesar from the Planet of the Apes trilogy, puts his stellar cast, that includes Rohan Chand, Christian Bale and Benedict Cumberbatch, through their paces, using performance capture combined with top-notch animation and visual effects to create the visually stunning world of Rudyard Kipling’s famous story.
Serkis reinvents Kipling’s masterpiece, in which a boy torn between two worlds accepts his destiny and becomes a legend. Mowgli (Chand) has never truly belonged in either the wilds of the jungle or the civilized world of man. Now he must navigate the inherent dangers of each on a journey to discover where he truly belongs. Bale, Cumberbatch, Serkis and Chand are joined Cate Blanchett, Freida Pinto, Matthew Rhys and Naomie Harris in this visually spectacular and emotionally moving adventure.
