Regarded as a classic in film history by countless fans, My Neighbor Totoro demonstrates the amazing imagination of the director Miyazaki and conveys his hope of the world peace. He deliberately avoids adult themes such as conflict, good and evil in films. From the beginning to the end, viewing the world from the perspective of a child and presenting the best side of life on the screen. Since the birth of the film, it has aroused a “Totoro Mania” in many countries. The classic scene in which the Totoro Family and the sisters stand together on a branch in the bright moonlight ringing the Hand two-string fiddle has become a child dream of many fans.

The “keeper of the forest” poster exposed today reproduces the classics. In the depths of the endless jungle, between the branches and leaves, three Totoros stand on a branch of a tree, ringing the Hand two-string fiddles melodiously in peace. They are like close friends reunited after separating for a long time, accompanying each other with cares and affections; they are also like keepers of the mysterious forest, quietly guarding the harmony and vitality of nature. Sunlight filters through the leaves and shines on Totoros, warming the whole poster and transmitting the comfort to viewers’ hearts.

Distinct from other films of Miyazaki, “My Neighbor Totoro” tells a family story full of warmth and child’s fun set in the Japanese countryside in a summer in the 1950s. As the mother was hospitalized, Satsuki and Mei moved with their father to a new home in the country. In this new world of their own, they met a lot of tiny spirits, befriended amazing totoros and had fantastic adventures. With a brush, Miyazaki outlined a fairy tale utopia free from worldly entanglement and filled with innocent emotions. It seems like a childhood dream, leaving everyone with a fascinating fantasy.

The digitally-restored version of “My Neighbor Totoro” will be released nationwide on December 14th, with the restoration work presided over by Miyazaki himself to adapt to the modern playback technology. In addition to converting the original film of “My Neighbor Totoro” into digital version, it was also repaired and remade to attract more young fans when screened in China. Specially, the famous actor Qin Lan was invited to participate in the dubbing of the film. A Chinese version will be released together with the original version at the same time.
