MiHoYo’s Global President Steps Down, New Successor to Reshape Its Future Gaming Layout

On April 30, 2026, miHoYo officially confirmed that Jin Wenyi, President of Global Business, has resigned due to personal career planning and will officially leave the company at the end of May. Her overall responsibilities will be fully taken over by Wang Yuyang (Seven), marking a pivotal personnel reshuffle and strategic transition for miHoYo’s global expansion business.
A core founding member of miHoYo’s overseas development, Jin Wenyi joined the company in 2017. She built the entire global publishing system from scratch and led the worldwide launch of Genshin Impact. Under her leadership, HoYoverse has grown into a benchmark brand for Chinese game overseas expansion, elevating miHoYo from a domestic developer to one of the world’s top gaming enterprises and repeatedly ranking first among Chinese game companies in overseas revenue. She laid a solid foundation for the company’s global operational capabilities and market layout.
miHoYo officially expressed gratitude for Jin Wenyi’s outstanding contributions to the global development of its game products and wished her well in her future endeavors. In an internal letter, Jin Wenyi stated that her resignation stemmed from personal career planning. She will complete a smooth handover within one month and continue supporting the team during the transition period.
Wang Yuyang, the successor, is the founder of Da’e Culture and former Vice President of Bilibili, in charge of live streaming and platform operation. He joined the AI company founded by miHoYo co-founder Cai Haoyu in 2024 and has recently overseen the global release of miHoYo’s new title Varsapura. Boasting rich operational experience and an international vision, he is highly aligned with the company’s long-term strategic goals.
Core Impacts of the Executive Departure on miHoYo’s Future Layout
1. Short-term Impact: Stable Business Transition with Sustained Strategy
The resignation is a peaceful personnel adjustment driven by personal reasons. With a one-month handover period, core businesses including overseas publishing, localisation, community operation and global business cooperation will remain unaffected in the short run.
The global operational systems of mature titles such as Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail are well-established with a stable team structure, securing short-term performance and user base stability. As HoYoverse’s global organisation, channel resources and marketing framework have matured, there will be no strategic disruption caused by the change of a single senior executive.
2. Medium and Long-term Impact: Entering a New Era of Globalisation with Strategic Adjustments
Global Expansion Shifts from Hit-driven Growth to Multi-category & Full IP Globalisation
The Jin Wenyi era was defined by the breakout success of Genshin Impact, securing miHoYo’s global status. With Wang Yuyang taking over, miHoYo is set to strengthen the overseas layout of a multi-product matrix, accelerate the global launch of new titles including Varsapura, expand coverage in niche categories such as girl-oriented and competitive games, and extend its global ecosystem covering IP animation, music and peripheral derivatives.
Higher Priority on Operational and Content Ecosystems
Specialising in platform operation and user growth, Wang Yuyang is expected to drive miHoYo’s overseas business to prioritise refined community operation and content ecosystem construction, shifting from pure publishing to a dual-driven model of publishing plus refined operation. This will enhance overseas user retention and commercial monetisation depth to adapt to refined competition in the global gaming market.
Deep Integration of AI and Global Business
With solid experience in the AI industry, Wang Yuyang will facilitate miHoYo to empower global business through AI technology, including intelligent localisation, precise marketing placement, user insight analysis and content creation optimisation, boosting the efficiency and differentiated competitiveness of its overseas layout in line with the company’s technological innovation strategy.
Potential Challenges and Risks
The senior management transition may bring a short team adaptation period. Wang Yuyang lacks frontline experience in game overseas distribution and needs to quickly build expertise in regional policies, channel rules and global player preferences. Meanwhile, intensifying global market competition and tightening regulatory policies will pose new tests for the new leadership.
Industry Outlook
This personnel reshuffle signals that miHoYo has entered an era of in-depth globalisation after completing initial market expansion. Jin Wenyi fulfilled her mission of building the company’s global framework from scratch, while Wang Yuyang will lead miHoYo’s global strategy to shift from scale expansion to high-quality development via multi-category layout, refined operation and AI empowerment.
As a leading pioneer of Chinese game overseas expansion, miHoYo’s leadership transition will not only shape its own strategic trajectory but also set a reference for the entire industry’s globalisation path. The performance of its new overseas titles, IP ecosystem layout and technological integration strategy under the new management will remain a key focus of the global gaming industry.
Original internal letter text:
Dear colleagues in the International Department,
I recently submitted my resignation and will officially leave miHoYo/HoYoverse at the end of May.
Since 2017, we have built miHoYo’s global publishing capabilities from the ground up, enabling players around the world to experience our games. For many years, both the company and our games have ranked first among Chinese game companies going global – an achievement we can certainly be proud of. But what I value most in this journey is the opportunity to have met so many outstanding teammates – we turned the impossible into possible, and together created industrybenchmark cases. Getting to know all of you, fighting alongside you, and eventually becoming friends is truly the happiest thing for me.
My resignation is part of my personal career plan – I want to explore the world beyond. Moving forward, Seven will take over from me and continue to lead the International Department. I will complete the handover with him over the next month.
The mountains and rivers remain – the world is small, and I hope our paths cross again.
Best regards,
