Massive Scale RTS War Selection Enters Early Access Today

Indie developer Glyph Worlds has released its massive scale RTS War Selection on Steam Early Access. The game is releasing as a free-to-play title however players will be able to subscribe and unlock exclusive subscriber-only matches which will offer them additional technologies in the game. Subscribers will also be able to make private matches and participate in votes to determine new features of the game.
In War Selection, players start off in the Stone Age during each game and then choose their path to victory by advancing through the eras as they modify their culture to their own playstyle. Each era in the game allows players to choose from their own unique technological upgrades and visual styles based on the chosen culture.
This can be understood from the example that if a player chooses to advance through the Iron Age as Asia, they get different bonuses than going through as a European Empire. These options allow players to customize their gameplay style and the strategy that they want to opt for playing the game. The game offers both single and multiplayer modes which adds variety to the game especially the Armageddon mode.
During the Armageddon mode, 62 players will jump in the same match as the smallest empires get bombarded with meteors. As the match progresses in the game, the meteors get more and more intense which forces players to advance in their technology and fight other players on the map as well. The game is built in the Glyph World’s custom-built engine called the GlyphEngine and this engine was designed specifically with online RTS and MOBA features in mind.
The engine is able to support an extremely large amount of active objects on the screen as well as massive 64-player multiplayer battles. The developer says:
We can’t wait to see the community build up around War Selection. We hope to create a close-knit fanbase of players through our ability to host matches of such an incredible size. We’re very proud of our ability to have 62 players simultaneously fighting in an RTS and look forward to observing the tactics, strategies, and politics that come about in our game.
Key features of War Selection includes:
Tons of Units and Buildings – More than 100 different buildings and 200 different kinds of units (Land, Sea) are present across the ages.
Customize Your Culture – Choose which culture you will align with as you advance through the ages, carving your own distinct path through history. Begin in the Stone Age, and specialize in European or Asian cultures as the game progresses to unlock specialize technologies, buildings, and units.
Massive Multiplayer Wars – Over 62 players on a single match leads to true chaos as wars break out all over the map.
Varied Modes and Competitive Styles – Against players, fight in free-for-alls, team battles, or Armageddon.
