Lighting the Creative Spark of Artificial Intelligence – The first International Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Creativity was Successfully Concluded
From November 15 to 17, 2024, the first International Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Creativity (IAICC) was successfully held at the Shenzhen Institute of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Nanshan District, Shenzhen. As one of the professional forums of the 2024 Xili Lake Forum, this conference is co-sponsored by the Shenzhen Research Institute of the Chinese University of Hong Kong and Digital Spectrum Global Co., LTD., and supported by Shenzhen Science and Technology Innovation Strategy Research Center, Shenzhen Digital Creativity and Multimedia Industry Association and other cooperative institutions.
The three-day conference is rich in content, including keynote speeches, symposia, professional courses, etc., showing the characteristics of “internationalization, specialization, practicality, and foresight”, bringing together industry leaders in the field of artificial intelligence and creativity, university scholars and business representatives, more than 1,500 people attended.
At the opening ceremony of the event on the 16th, Professor Yam Yang, Dean of the Shenzhen Institute of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, delivered a welcome speech, Professor Chan Wai-yee, Vice President (Strategic Development) of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, delivered a video speech, and Mr. Raymond Neoh, founder of CG Global Entertainment Ltd, delivered a speech.
Professor Ren Yang said. Artificial intelligence has brought innovative power, and the creative industry will usher in unprecedented opportunities and also meet great challenges. The Shenzhen Institute of the Chinese University of Hong Kong actively integrates the university’s research and development projects in artificial intelligence and other innovative fields, hoping to stimulate the interest of academia, industry and the public in the latest development of AI technology through international exchanges and cooperation, while promoting the research and industrial development of artificial intelligence technology.
In his video address, Professor Chen Weiyi said that the Chinese University of Hong Kong has always adhered to the concept of open cooperation, not only committed to the research of cutting-edge technologies, but also focused on close cooperation with the industry, hoping to create a collaborative environment through this conference, use professional knowledge to promote the development and application of artificial intelligence technology, and promote the cooperation between domestic and foreign institutions and partners. Accelerate the pace of innovative solutions.
Mr. Neoh said that artificial intelligence is a tool and dynamic force that can change the way we think, create and solve problems. Open source tools continue to have a profound impact on the creative industry, and embracing open source is not only about building better tools, it’s also about building a more inclusive, collaborative, and resilient industry.
On November 16th, The conference invited Mr. Scott Ross, co-founder of Digital Domin and former General manager of Industrial Light & Magic Ross, Professor Meng Meiling, Xuan Yong Ming Professor of Systems Engineering and Engineering Management and Director of Primus Perception and Interaction Research Center, The Chinese University of Hong Kong; Professor Guo Jinyi, Research Assistant Professor, Faculty of Arts, the University of Hong Kong; Bai Yang, technical expert of Tencent Game Ecology Development Department; CAI Mingzhi, Vice President of Shanghai Vision Chu Culture Technology Co., LTD.; Wu Honglian, Founder of Sichuan Hongyao Culture Communication Co., LTD Dr. Sun Lifa, co-founder and CEO of Sheng Sheng, Dr. Li Kun, co-founder and CEO of Sheng Xi Technology and other guests delivered keynote speeches. The guests not only shared their own cutting-edge technology research in artificial intelligence, creative digital, IP and other aspects, but also fully discussed the future empowerment of artificial intelligence for creative industries and the prospect of synergistic development of the two.
Mr. Scott Ross, special effects supervisor of the movie “Titanic” and co-founder of Digital Kingdom, gave an opening speech with the theme of “Three Technological Innovations in the Movie Industry”, which officially opened the prelude of the conference. Combining his extensive creative experience, Dr. Scott Ross shares his insights on the transformative potential of AI technology in the film and television industry.
Professor Mei Ling Meng, Xuan Life Professor of Systems Engineering and Engineering Management and Director of Primus Perception Interaction Research Centre, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, delivered a speech on “Building a Responsible AI Future: Ethics, Safety and Management in Education and Research”. With the wide application of AI, many scientific and technological ethical issues brought by AI continue to attract high attention from all walks of life. Professor Meng deeply analyzed the opportunities brought by the rapid development of AI technology and the ethical, safety and management challenges caused by it, and stressed the importance of sound AI governance while promoting technological innovation.
On November 17, the conference carried out keynote speeches including “generative artificial intelligence”, “Story creation in the era of artificial intelligence”, “AI creation and copyright”, and many industry authorities continued to discuss the application and trend of AI in content creation, industrial innovation, and enterprise development. The content covers a wide range of topics from the forefront of AI technology to the application of creative industries from a diversified international perspective, and deeply focuses on the most popular technical trends and tools in the current field of artificial intelligence creativity.
During the two-day in-depth discussion, the experts believed that AI has made content creation more diverse and efficient, showing reshaping power in film and television, games, advertising and other fields, enriching the expression of content creation, and enhancing the interaction with users, which has greatly promoted the development of the creative industry. But AI also brings huge challenges, all walks of life need to take a series of measures to actively respond, especially the promoters of the AI industry, have the responsibility to ensure that technological progress at the same time, can balance the needs of economic development, social ethics, information security and other aspects.
In line with the actual needs of industry practitioners, themed courses on technical tools such as Blender 4.2, Stable Diffusion and FLUX.1 were carried out during the conference, taught by authoritative experts in the industry to cultivate more industry talents and promote the development of artificial intelligence and creative industries.
