Kikoriki animation project turns 16

On 1 June, the International Day for Protection of Children, the standard-bearer of modern-day Russian animation, Kikoriki, will turn 16 years old.

The history of the Kikoriki brand dates back to 2003. Since then, more than 150 different specialists have laboured to produce the high-quality animation at Petersburg Animation Studio, one of the leading studios in Russia. During that time, more than 70 hours of Kikoriki animated adventures have been produced, the series has been translated into 30 languages, and three feature-length films have been released: ‘Kikoriki. The Beginning’, ‘Kikoriki. Legend of the Golden Dragon’, and ‘Kikoriki. Déjà Vu’.

In 2019, a new series of episodes featuring the Kikoriki appeared: ‘The ABCs of Protecting the Forest’, created jointly with Greenpeace Russia. The same year also saw the premiere of a new season of the project entitled ‘The ABCs of Financial Literacy’, developed by the Riki Group with support from, and at the initiative of, the Russian Federation Ministry of Finance and the World Bank.

The series is unlike anything else, with no counterparts in Russian or international animation, and the Kikoriki characters have remained incredibly popular around the world, winning the hearts of both children and adults.
