Japanese anime studios go on the offensive in India

Anime companies in Japan are busy expanding their penetration in the Indian market to tap demand from the generations of viewers who grew up watching children’s titles.
Japanese media group Avex runs Anime Times as a distributor that streams anime in India through Amazon Prime Video. The Anime Times venture has received funding from such major Japanese publishers as Shueisha.
Japanese animation is getting heavy promotion in India, where interest in the genre has soared since the pandemic and Japan’s anime production market has topped $2 billion in value, thanks to hit movies and the growth of streaming services.
