Immerse yourself in the new experience of metaverse digital cultural tourism!
The future of the metaverse has arrived. Through “content + technology + fusion innovation”, a sustainable and healthily developing metaverse ecology is constructed. The innovative business model of moving from virtuality to reality has been realized, catalyzing the digital upgrade and business model innovation of the cultural tourism industry in the post-COVID era. Creating new possibilities with science and technology, breaking the limits of space-time, building a digital space that merges reality with virtuality, an immersive tourism experience has been achieved. In addition, the metaverse can help the tourism industry realize its digital value.
The inauguration of the Nansha Metaverse Industrial Cluster Zone cum announcement of the Nansha “Nine Metaverse Measures” was held in the Nansha District of China’s city of Guangzhou. The “Nine Measures to Promote the Ecological Development of Metaverse in Guangzhou Nansha New Area (Nansha Area of the Free Trade Zone)” will support the development of the metaverse industry in Nansha from nine aspects, including technological research, industrial agglomeration, R & D investment and talent introduction.
The metaverse concept of “combining virtuality and reality” can help scenic spots get “reborn”. With the help of technologies such as VR / AR and mobile electronic devices, tourists are able to have a richer cultural, historical and narrative experience in more immersive and interactive tourist envionments.
The Palace Museum used 3D scanning, VR, panorama and other technologies in the recently-launched “Palace Museum VR Experience” project, hoping to create and enhance visitors’immersive experience with the help of the metaverse.
Xiushanmen Museum’s red-themed VR exhibit relies on the advantages of 5G technology. Viewers wear VR glasses and are directly transported into a virtual reality space, where they can freely traverse through various revolution memorials, revolution sites. This includes experiencing the red army’s climb up snowy mountains, passage through the grasslands, etc.. Viewers have the full 720-degree panoramic and interactive experience as they view revolution relics and listen to their respective descriptions. It is as though they are given the opportunity to revisit China’s revolution history and appreciate the value of revolution relics first-hand.
The increasing maturity of the world’s digital technology in the cultural field has also provided a favorable external environment for the digitalization of museums in China. Through modern technology such as computers, AR technology is able to simulate, superimpose and virtualize real-world information—otherwise difficult to experience due to time and space restrictions in the real world—and apply them to reality to be perceived by human senses. Experimentation on AR technology’s application to virtual tours, exhibit “restoration”, and “resurrection” of exhibited objects has also begun.
By closely combining exhibition work with AR technology, museums enliven their exhibitions. In China, AR, VR and other technologies have been increasingly applied to the exhibition process of museum collections. The digital exhibition experience “See the Old Summer Palace” held by the China Garden Museum selected 26 scenic spots such as Western Mansions, Hall of Justice and Honor and Hall of Diligent and Talented Government, and reproduced the overall layout of the “Old Summer Palace” using modern digital technology to deliver a more intuitive and profound experience.
At the same time, 3D panoramic technology, as a desktop virtual reality technology, has been utilized by over 200 online digital museums. Through the application of 3D panoramic technology, recorded tours, text, images and other media forms, visitors’ sensory experiences have been greatly enriched.
For example, Datang Everbright City announced the preparation of the world’s first metaverse project based on the historical and cultural background of the Tang Dynasty, aiming to create a “mirror virtual world” which seeks to build commercial value through NFTs or digital collections.
To create specialty digital cultural tour IPs and release digital collections requires in-depth research on cultural connotations. The form of digital collections and channels by which they are released also need to be developed and explored.
