IDFA welcomes Selin Murat as new Markets Manager

In major news from the Industry department, IDFA is delighted to announce that Selin Murat has joined the team as the new Markets Manager. Under the direction of Head of Industry Adriek van Nieuwenhuijzen, Murat will play an integral role in shaping the future of IDFA’s markets and industry programming, bringing over 13 years of experience in the international documentary industry.

As co-founder of Canadian production company Parabola films, Selin began her career as a creative producer. For over a decade, she produced author-driven documentary films that found their way to festivals, theater, and broadcast, in the process taking on an active role in Canada’s documentary landscape. She became Film Programmer and Head of RIDM Industry in 2017 and 2018 respectively, forging strong relationships with festivals and markets across Europe. In this role, she co-created the If! Doc Lab in Istanbul (2016-2018) and led co-production workshops for Quebec delegations at CPH:DOX, Sunny Side of the Doc, Hot Docs, and Cannes Doc. Additionally, Selin works as a consultant for international film markets such as Berlin’s EFM Toolbox, she is a founding member of the Documentary Association of Europe, and she consults for independent filmmakers all over the world.

In her new role as IDFA’s Markets Manager, Selin will work to ensure a diverse and high-quality selection, facilitate the scouting of projects and decision makers, expand the markets’ network of financiers and stakeholders, help oversee the setup and strategy of the department, and work closely with the filmmaking teams attending IDFA’s markets, among other responsibilities.

Selin joins the team led by Head of Industry Adriek van Nieuwenhuijzen, working alongside Industry Relations & Talks Manager Laurien ten Houten, Senior Markets Producer Jenni Tuovinen, Guest Services Manager David Leenders, and Forum Producer Marina Burić.
