Huya Live Secures Exclusive Hosting Rights for League of Legends Demacia Cup, Marking Industry Milestone for Third-Party Collaboration

Huya Live recently announced that it has become the exclusive host and live streaming platform for the 2025 League of Legends Demacia Cup (commonly known as “Demacia Cup”). This marks the first time since the tournament’s inception in 2014 that hosting rights have been granted to a third-party platform, representing a significant step forward in the operational model of esports events.
This collaboration not only signifies Huya’s transition from a “broadcaster” to a “host” of the event but is also seen as an active exploration in industry-wide content co-creation and ecosystem development. As a core component of the League of Legends professional tournament system, the Demacia Cup has long been operated by the game’s official organizers. This authorization is interpreted by the industry as official recognition of the platform’s capabilities in event planning, full-chain operations, and content production, while also paving the way for more diversified cooperation models in future esports events.
Tournament Upgrades, Covering Both Online and Offline Scenarios
The 2025 Demacia Cup will officially launch on December 15, with the competition running until January 3, 2026, divided into three stages:
- December 15–25: Online group stage (two phases)
- December 26–29: Online single-elimination knockout stage
- January 1–3, 2026: Offline finals (Xi’an Qujiang Esports Center)
This year’s tournament will feature 14 professional LPL teams and two streamer teams selected by Huya, competing for a total prize pool of 1.2 million RMB.
Two Major Innovations Enhance Competitiveness and Viewing Experience
To strengthen the appeal and competitive suspense of the event, Huya has introduced two key innovations based on its platform operations experience:
“Unrestricted Choice” Blind Pick Mode
In the third game of a BO3 or the fifth game of a BO5, both teams will enter a “pure skill-based showdown” with no hero bans and no visibility into the opponent’s picks, further testing players’ individual capabilities and on-the-spot adaptability.
Real-Time Coach Voice Guidance Mechanism
Starting from the offline semifinals, each team will be allowed one coach to provide real-time tactical guidance during each game—up to three times per game, with each instance lasting 45 seconds—without pausing the match. This design enhances the professional depth of tactical competition while offering viewers a unique “behind-the-scenes” perspective.
Deepening Collaboration: A Three-Stage Leap from Broadcasting to Hosting
Huya’s partnership with the Demacia Cup has evolved over the years:
- In 2021, Huya first secured exclusive live streaming rights for the Demacia Cup.
- In 2024, Huya introduced streamer teams to compete alongside professional teams, enriching the tournament’s content format.
- In 2025, Huya further obtained exclusive hosting rights, taking full responsibility for tournament scheduling, rules, and prize pool design, achieving a strategic upgrade from “content dissemination” to “ecosystem operations.”
Far-Reaching Industry Significance: Setting a New Paradigm for Event Collaboration
The acquisition of hosting rights not only solidifies Huya’s central role in the League of Legends esports ecosystem but also provides systematic experience for its future involvement in, or even leadership of, more top-tier esports events. Analysis suggests that this collaboration may further advance the trend of “platforms deeply participating in and co-creating content ecosystems” in esports, offering the industry a replicable operational model.
