GLOBAL SCREEN ANNOUNCES EARLY PRE-SALE TO NORTH AMERICA FOR LOST TRANSPORT AHEAD OF EFM
Munich, 10 February 2022. Global Screen, a TELEPOOL brand, has secured pre-sales of the gripping female-led drama Lost Transport to Menemsha Films for the USA and Canada ahead of this month’s Berlinale Market.
Lost Transport, starring Hanna van Vilet (ANNE+, Toon, Quicksand), Eugénie Anselin (Bad Banks) and Anna Bachmann (Lost Ones) in the lead roles, alongside Bram Suijker and Konstantin Frolov, has been acquired by Menemsha Films. Founded in 1998 by Neil Friedman, the company is dedicated to distributing the highest-quality art house films, hand-picked from around the globe. Menemsha Films set a record, discovering and representing five Academy Award nominees for five years in a row.
A co-production of KeyFilm with Amour Fou, Coin Film and NTR, Lost Transport was filmed on location in Luxembourg and Germany and realised with the support of the Netherlands Film Fund, the Netherlands Film Production Incentive, CoBO, Film Fund Luxembourg, Film- und Medienstiftung NRW, nordmedia, DFFF and Roba Music Publishing.
Inspired by true events, it tells the story of the final days of the turmoil of World War II with German soldiers abandoning a deportation train to the fate of advancing Russian troops. The film centres around a chance encounter between the distrustful German girl Winnie, the courageous Dutch Jew Simone and the fearless Russian sniper Vera.
In the ruins of war, three strong female protagonists have to break away from their survival strategies and overcome their resentments. From a female perspective, Saskia Diesing (Nena) links real events with the fictional characters in the film to create a feminist and deeply human story about cohesion and friendship.
The 25th edition of the oldest and most prestigious initiative to promote European acting talent has named Hanna van Vliet EFP’s Shooting Star for The Netherlands in 2022. The award ceremony for the overall winner of this distinguished honour will take place at Berlinale on February 14.
Neil Friedman, Menemsha Films comments “The film Lost Transport is a true discovery. Filmmaker Saskia Diesing has written and directed a subtle, impactful film that viewers will surely cherish.”
Julia Weber, at Global Screen adds “This is a gripping post-war drama told from an illuminating and often neglected female perspective. Lost Transport is an amazing story of courage and fearlessness made even more special because it is inspired by true events. It reveals what can be achieved as people from diverse backgrounds put their differences aside and work together for the benefit of everyone around them. Neil and his team at Menemsha Films are true experts when it comes to tailormade targeting of the relevant audiences and the perfect partner for the film.”
