Climate-friendly FMX offsets CO2 emissions
FMX is one of the world’s most influential conferences dedicated on animation, effects, games, interactive and immersive media. FMX all started in 1994 – back then Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg decided to host an exchange fair for their students. What started off as a small event for students would become FMX – Film & Media Exchange in Stuttgart, Germany.
FMX is funded by the Ministry of Science, Research and Arts and the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labour and Tourism of the State of Baden-Wuerttemberg, the City of Stuttgart and MFG Baden-Wuerttemberg, taking place in cooperation with ACM Siggraph. FMX is organized by Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg, hosting the Animation Production Days (APD), a joint venture with the Stuttgart International Festival of Animated Film (ITFS).

The Filmakademie will host the 28th edition of FMX onApril 23 to 26, 2024. Since its beginning, FMX has developed into one of the world’s most important conferences dedicated to animation, effects, interactive and immersive media.
Despite having grown into an international conference, FMX aims to stay true to its roots: We want to offer an event that brings together our community – no matter if it is in Stuttgart or online. Through our popular Get-Togethers, we are dedicated to creating spaces for our Community to network, discuss the latest developments or just have a little chat.
One of the primary goals was to make FMX climate friendly and greenhouse gas neutral. FMX dedicated significant efforts to implementing various improvements and reductions across multiple areas, including venue management, energy & water supply, arrival & departure, accommodation, catering, waste & resources, procurement, and event marketing & public relations.
To further strengthen thecommitment to environmental sustainability, FMX have taken careful steps to offset the remaining 660 tons of CO2 emissions through a supported initiative to donate clean and efficient cookstoves in Rwanda. This results in less deforestation in the region and less use of charcoal for household energy.
FMX also supported the “Climate Protection in Cultural Institutions funding program” with a donation of €2 per ticket to the KSS. The foundation supports ten cultural institutions in Baden-Wuerttemberg in the transition to more sustainability.
While FMX celebrate this achievement, FMX acknowledge that climate friendly behavior is an ongoing process and that there are still areas in need of improvement. Waste management, in particular, is an ongoing focus for us. While FMX have made significant strides in this area, FMX recognize that FMX have not yet reached thedesired target. Rest assured, FMX remain committed to develop FMX as a sustainable conference even further in the coming years.
The Beauty
A great success during the event was the Deutsche Bahn event ticket initiative. A considerable number of thevisitors embraced this opportunity, making a significant contribution to sustainable mobility at FMX. FMX are delighted by the high level of participation, as it plays a vital role in theongoing efforts to make the event as climate-friendly as possible. Thanks to everyone of you! FMX look forward to future collaborations with Deutsche Bahn as FMX continue to prioritize sustainable transportation options.
FMX would like to extend thegratitude to Stuttgart City Marketing for their support in providing information on sustainable hotel accommodation. This collaboration enabled us to offer theattendees eco-conscious lodging options and contribute to a greener FMX experience.
And FMX will intensify thecollaboration with the FMX venue, Haus der Wirtschaft, in regard to sustainability. FMX look forward to working hand in hand with them to further thesustainability efforts and promote a more environmentally responsible event.
