Cartoon Movie 2026:Bordeaux, France, March 3 to 5, 2026

CALL FOR ENTRIES

(For producers with animated film concepts or projects in development)

The Société de développement des entreprises culturelles (SODEC) and Telefilm Canada are proud to be partners in the 2026 edition of Cartoon Movie, from March 3rd to March 5th in Bordeaux, France. Cartoon Movie is a highly focused, effective pitching event created in 1999 to take advantage of the synergies between producers, investors, and distributors of animated feature films.

Producers have the opportunity to present their projects to all potential financial partners in a single venue in order to find co-producers, to accelerate financing, and to negotiate agreements with distributors, sales agents, and video game companies.

Quebec and Canadian animation expertise will be in the spotlight at Cartoon Movie 2026. In addition to the presence of Quebec and Canadian delegations at the event, registered producers will benefit from enhanced visibility for showcasing their creative talent and for building bridges with their European counterparts.

Thanks to this partnership, SODEC, Telefilm Canada, and Cartoon Movie are pleased to offer a total of six Quebec/Canadian producers the opportunity to participate in 2026 and to present their animated film projects at a pitch session tailored to their homegrown creative talent.

Created in 2001, these awards are granted annually at Cartoon Movie. Most of the nominated films have gone through Cartoon Movie in their development or production stage, confirming therefore the outstanding importance of this event for the European animation industry.

During Cartoon Movie, the 9 nominees of the Cartoon Tributes, among the categories Producer, Distributor, and Director will be presented during short interviews. All participants on site will have the possibility to vote for their peers during 3 dedicated moments for each category. For animation feature projects

Created in 1999, Cartoon Movie is an intense and efficient pitching event designed to create synergy between producers, investors, and distributors of feature-length animation films.

Producers have the opportunity to pitch their project to all potential financial partners gathered in the same room, in order to find co-producers, speed up financing, as well as negotiate deals with distributors, sales agents, and game companies.

4 stages of project presentation

A special feature of Cartoon Movie is the possibility to present projects at various stages:

  • projects in concept
  • projects in development
  • films in production
  • films in sneak preview

This allows the entire industrial network to participate in the film’s development, significantly increasing the producer’s chances of success.

30 minutes to convince the buyers

The pitching sessions are the core element of Cartoon Movie. Participants have to choose between 2 rooms where projects are pitched by the production and artistic team, ranging from 10 minutes for projects in concept to 30 minutes for projects in development, production, or sneak preview.

The screening of trailers in front of all participants during the traditional “Croissant Show” breakfast and “Coffee Show” lunch offers a glimpse of the projects and encourages attendance at the pitching sessions.

The human touch: the soul of Cartoon Movie

Around the sessions, Cartoon Movie creates golden networking opportunities: at the Welcome Dinner, buffet lunches, and even during the Farewell Cocktail. Business without stress!

A highly efficient formula

Since 1999, more than 400 films pitched at Cartoon Movie have secured their financing and been released.

Among them, many hits such as: Niko & the Way to the Stars, Zarafa, The Pirates, Ernest & Celestine, Tadeo Jones, Kirikou, Belleville Rendez-Vous, The Painting, Dragon Hunters, Chico & Rita, Shaun the Sheep, Ooops…Noah is Gone, The Breadwinner, Minuscule, My Life as a Zucchini, Big Bad Fox & Other Tales, The Jungle Bunch, Buñuel in the Labyrinth of Turtles, Loving Vincent, The Summit of Gods, Checkered Ninja, Where is Anne Frank?, Flee, My Sunny Maad, among others.

International distributors & sales agents

One of the strengths of Cartoon Movie is its network of distributors & sales agents from Europe, South America, North America, and Asia who come to pick the best projects and ensure a pan-European and international distribution & sales of the films.

Famous directors and creative talents

Renowned directors and authors have trusted Cartoon Movie and presented their films, including: Michel Ocelot, Peter Lord, Ari Folman, Sylvain Chomet, Jean-François Laguionie, Jacques-Rémy Girerd, Patrice Leconte, Enzo d’Alò, Terry Gilliam, Jannik Hastrup, Mathias Malzieu, Enki Bilal, Tomm Moore, Benjamin Renner, Anca Damian, Nora Twomey, Jonas Poher Rasmussen, Michaela Pavlatova, Ben Stassen, among others.

However, the essence of Cartoon Movie is to give the same chances to big names as to small companies with creative talents: a good project with potential will catch the eyes of the participants wherever it comes from. Cartoon Movie boasts beautiful success stories that started from scratch.
