CANEX launches the third edition of its short film competition for young African directors

The CANEX Shorts competition is back with a call for projects for its third edition, which will be held on the sidelines of IATF 2025 in Algiers, Algeria, from September 4 to 10, 2025.
Organized by Afreximbank ‘s Creative Africa Nexus (CANEX) program , this competition aims to celebrate and highlight young talents in African cinema through three categories: Fiction, Documentary and Animation.
To participate, you must be between 18 and 35 years old, reside in Africa or the diaspora, submit a short film of no more than 5 minutes in length, and own all rights to the proposed film. Works, produced in 2023 or later, can be in any language, provided they are subtitled in English if necessary.
The winners in each category will receive a $2,000 prize, the opportunity to have their film screened at CANEX WKND in Algiers, and will be invited to the event, with transportation and accommodation provided. This event, which brings together leading figures in the African creative industry, also offers the finalists a golden opportunity to network with potential investors and partners.
Interested parties are invited to submit their films via the FilmFreeway platform (CANEX Shorts), providing a digital link to their works, before June 30.
